JACKSONVILLE, FL — Maycee Barber may not have a number next to her name yet, but that doesn’t stop her from claiming a potential title against the champ she’s faced before.
“I’ve been saying it over and over again. Whether or not Alexa (Grasso) beats Valentina (Shevchenko) beats Valentina (Shevchenko), Barber told reporters in her post-match meeting on Saturday afternoon.
“That would be perfect. We’ll see. I’ll go back and talk to Hunter (Campbell) Mick (Maynard) and the team and find out.”
Barber (13-2) lost to Grasso in February 2021, and this was the rematch she’d been asking for ever since. Whether it is for the title or not.
“Yes and no. He might find out. I honestly have to talk to everyone, but I mean, that’s what I wanted Alexa for in a rematch.”
Barber does not doubt Grasso’s ability to retain her title against Shevchenko in a rematch, but she makes it clear that the fight is still very close.
“She’s a toss. Alexa is an incredible fighter. Valentina has been a dominant champion for a long time for a reason.
“Honestly, it’s hard to give a prediction because anything can happen.”
