Mark Zuckerberg is one of the most controversial figures in the tech world. But after it appeared on The Joe Rogan ExperienceZuckerberg said he took up jiu-jitsu and expressed his love for the martial arts. Yesterday, footage of his first jiu-jitsu tournament was posted and caused an uproar on the Internet.
Mark Zuckerberg: An affinity for martial arts
Zuckerberg looked fit in the video and had a decent guillotine escape. Keep in mind that it’s still primarily a white belt. Don’t expect the level of Danaher Jiu Jitsu from the founder of Facebook just yet.
Mark Zuckerberg practiced martial arts and became a huge fan of it. He follows fighters from the UFC, Bellator, and ONE championships and gives kudos to the fighters he enjoys. In fact, Zuckerberg watches the sport.
In fact, Mark Zuckerberg leased APEX for Mackenzie Dern vs. Xiaonan Yan. Dern is his wife’s favorite fighter and the couple sat ringside to enjoy the show.
Zuckerberg then partnered with the UFC and FightPass to host an LFA event in VR with Meta’s Oculus. The event was pretty cool but we haven’t seen another since.
Zuckerberg isn’t the only known person involved in jiu-jitsu. While he is the only technique to compete publicly, Tom Hardy has participated and competed in Jiu Jitsu as a purple belt. Jonah Hill also attributes his healthy transformation to Jiu Jitsu.
While many may groan with Zuckerberg’s involvement in mixed martial arts, having a tech billionaire invested in the sport could reap some benefits for fans.
Virtual reality is the future of sports and entertainment, however remote it may seem. With Zuckerberg interested in building the backbone of the virtual world, MMA could be there from the jump. Like it or hate it, we’re fast approaching the future of combat sports. It’s in virtual reality. Zuckerberg is personally monitoring it.
Your friendly neighborhood fan fight. I watch a lot of fights and my wife lets me know.
