WASHINGTON (AP) — Kayla McBride scored a season-high 24 points and Tiffany Mitchell returned a miss with 3.0 seconds left to help the Minnesota Lynx beat the Washington Mystics 80-78 Saturday night and avoid tying the franchise record for consecutive losses. Open season.
Minnesota has lost (1-6) seven times in a row to open the 2007 season.
Mitchell took an inside pass on the right side and was blocked by Brittney Sykes’ punt attempt but grabbed the offensive rebound and took the go-ahead.
And Ariel Atkins finished with 18 points, including 4 three-pointers, and Shakira Austin 14 points and 10 rebounds for Washington (3-3).

SEATTLE (AP) — Nika Ogomiek had 27 points and 14 rebounds, Layshia Clarendon had 16 points, six assists and three steals as Los Angeles beat Seattle, who are off to their worst start since losing four straight points in their inaugural season.
Cheney Ogomiek added 15 points, while Lexi Brown scored 14 points with Los Angeles (3-2). Jordan Canada had nine points, seven assists and four blocked shots.
Jewell Lloyd tied her career high with eight made three-pointers and had 37 points with Seattle, one shy of her career best. Izzi Magpigor added 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
