Luke Rockhold enjoys the freedom of his combat sports.
UFC 278 in August 2022 marked the last time Rockhold set foot inside the Octagon…at least for now. The former middleweight title holder hasn’t completely closed the door at the end despite being 38 years old. However, if he ever came back, it would just have to be on terms that would best benefit him.
“I think there is something [BKFC]Rockhold said Just radio junk. “When you watch it and see what they’re doing, there’s just something interesting about it and I think there’s an audience and people support it.
He continued, “It’s a fair division of revenue while the UFC controls everything.” They merged with [WWE] Now they are a $12 billion company and they still persecute everyone, put them in motels, and pay them $50,000 in bonuses. It’s like, come on, dog. Any smart person would come out of this game and wouldn’t just want to be a father-class and be like a “UFC fighter” and attack that. Try using their platform for something. These people are just clinging to the nostalgia of being a UFC fighter like idiots like Shawn Strickland, who will just be a dog slave for the rest of his life.”
Rockhold’s UFC run ended in the wake of a three-fight losing skid, culminating with his debut performance on Fight of the Night against Paulo Costa in a unanimous decision loss (highlights to watch). He has since signed with BKFC where he will make his Naked Boxing debut against Mike Perry in the main event of BKFC 41 in Denver, Colorado this weekend (Saturday, April 29, 2023). After that, there is nothing to tell us.
“It’s all I want,” Rockhold said of his future after the Perry fight. That’s the beauty of being your own promotion. That’s where I’m going to stay from now on. No more contracts. One fight, prove your worth. That’s the fight, man. When you’re on top of the game and people are willing to watch you, you prove your worth in “Every time you fight and that has to be the stage of what you are and how you get paid. There’s no point in being in a long term contract. It’s security for people who aren’t real fighters and a company that wants to lock you up and enslave you.”
BKFC 41 airs live per view (PPV) on Fite TV for $49.99 on Saturday night. FITE+ subscribers can get 50 percent off, which brings the price down to $24.99. Click here to purchase.
