Los Angeles Golf Club announce Thursday as the first in a technology-packed golf league launched by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in partnership with the PGA Tour.
LAGC is owned by Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams and Venus Williams. The new league, TGL, will feature 18-hole matches on a virtual course. Primetime events will take place on Monday nights at a designated venue in Palm Beach, Florida.
There will be six teams of three competing in 15 regular season and playoff games, starting in January 2024.
Renderings released last year by TGL indicated that the venue would feature a simulator in which players would hit longer shots, along with an original green for chopping and posing.
Ohanian is the co-founder of Reddit and the principal owner and founding investor of the Women’s National Soccer League’s Angel City FC. He is married to Serena Williams, who is pregnant with their second child.
“My wife, Serena, and I are thrilled,” he said in a statement [our daughter] Olympia loved golf, so I’m proud to announce that they are owners of this clubhouse too – and so is the little one on the way! This is another part of the legacy I’m building with my family, and I hope LAGC becomes part of the lives of many other families as well.”
