Crohn Gracie broke his silence after a half-hearted display in a decision loss to Charles Jordan at UFC 288.
In his first bout since October 2019, Gracie attempted only 57 uppercuts over three innings and repeatedly tried to lure Jordan into his guard. However, Gracie’s efforts to engage his opponent in a grappling match were largely unsuccessful, with Jordan knocking him to his feet and neutralizing him to the ground in a forgettable encounter.
Gracie addressed the performance in a post on his Instagram Stories, blaming “bad advice” and a desire to please the jiu-jitsu community for his one-dimensional approach.
“In a life of fighting,” Gracie wrote, “it was always a fight to the death.” “I understand the situation and would like to limit myself, even if it is said that I didn’t throw any punches because of bad advice and I tried to please the jiu-jitsu community two days before I fought. First fight in my life I didn’t throw a punch, back to my old ways.”
The son of Rickson Gracie and ADCC gold medalist, Gracie won his first five professional matches in MMA — including a first-round submission from Alex Caceres at UFC on ESPN 1 in February 2019. He has since held back-to-back outings to Kobe Swanson and Jordan.
