Keegan Bradley and Denny McCarthy are down this week, historically low. The 15-less total is the lowest 36-hole opening score in the history of the Travelers Championship since the event moved to TPC River Highlands in 1984. Now they have 36 holes remaining to see if they can keep up.
Bradley shot the opening rounds 62-63, while McCarthy followed his round 60 on Thursday with a score of 65 on Friday.
Bradley ranks second in hits earned: shooting, having gained nearly five hits on the field over two innings. On Friday alone, he made pitches of 173 feet 7 inches.
“I’ve been putting really well all year, especially lately, especially on the curved green,” said Bradley, a fan favorite this week after growing up in New England. “I was reading it really well, and it was just—when you put things right it all seems easy and it’s automatic. It breaks a little bit this way, a little bit that way, and it happened today.”
Chez Reavie is alone third at 13-under – despite opening with a 64-63 – with Eric Cole at 11-under and Zac Blair and Adam Scott at 10-under.
Also chasing is Rory McIlroy, who shot 68 on Thursday but rose to the lead with 64 on Friday. He’s eight, like Xander Schavelli.
“Everything was a little better today,” McIlroy said. “I played harder, gave myself more chances and, you know, eliminated most of the mistakes I made yesterday.”
Game times for Saturday have been postponed due to weather, so groups will be kicking off both tees starting at 10:59 a.m. ET. The final trio of McCarthy, Bradley and Revie kicks off at 1 p.m
“I don’t know what it’s going to take, but it’s going to take some lows, and I know that, especially with the rain. It’s going to be a lot softer,” Bradley said. “…I know I have to go out there and keep the pedal down and make a lot of birdies.”
