With her submission win, Karen Silva improved to 16-4 and claimed her seventh straight win. Caitlin Sousa fell to 13-4, which snapped her five-win streak.
“It’s so good to see the work that I and my entire team have done to bear fruit,” Karen Silva said after the win (via a translator). “This is another step in the direction of being a champion. It’s what we wanted to do and it’s amazing that they’re already here.”
“This was the position we train for a lot,” Silva commented on the manner in which she withdrew the submission. “I don’t usually do it straight up, I do it to the side, I’m looking for the heel hook. When I saw we were straight up, I felt something, I felt a pop, there was something weird and I just let it go.”
In Australia, the event was broadcast live on Sunday 4 June.
