Former UFC Undisputed Bantamweight Champion Juliana Peña was forced into a three-rubber championship match with bantamweight champ, Amanda Nunes, at UFC 289 in June, after suffering a broken rib.
According to the president of the UFC, Dana WhitePena, the former undisputed bantamweight champion, pulled out of British Columbia, Canada to fight with Amanda Nunes in June – now fighting Brazil’s Irene Aldana on the same card as UFC 289.
After rematching Bahia veteran Amanda Nunes back in July of last year in the main event of UFC 277, Pena dropped her bantamweight title in a one-sided unanimous decision loss to the former, establishing herself as a two-time bantamweight champion once again.
As for Aldana, the Lobo Gym mainstay has been pulled from a scheduled comeback against former title challenger, Raquel Pennington later this month at the UFC Apex facility, with a title fight against Nunes nullifying that bout.
Amanda Nunes is now fighting Erin Aldana at UFC 289
Now set to appear in her first title challenge under the UFC banner, the Mexican challenger, Aldana is looking to join her compatriots, Brandon Moreno, Yair Rodriguez, and Alexa Grasso as the country’s gold medalists.

UFC 289 takes place on June 10 from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – with Nunes’ title defense against Aldana leading above the lightweight title challenger between former undisputed champ, Charles Oliveira, and Benil Dariusz.
