John Gotti says Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not his enemy anymore, but he still wants to punch him in the face.
Earlier this month, Gotti and Mayweather’s exhibition boxing match turned into chaos after the match was stopped due to unsportsmanlike behaviour, which led to the two fighters storming the ring. In the aftermath, Gotti declared Mayweather his “enemy for life,” but after taking some time to calm down, the 30-year-old fighter said he and Mayweather had crushed beef.
“He wanted to talk, and I wanted no part of it,” Gotti told Ariel Helwani. MMA watch. I didn’t want to talk to him. However, my father went to his locker room, they talked and broke it up. Listen, there is no animosity toward Floyd. I said he is my enemy for life out of anger, but he is not my enemy.
“He did his job. His job is entertaining and boxing, and so is mine. I still respect Floyd. Even at 46, you see him in the ring, how amazing he is. At 46, his reflexes are extraordinary…his speed. Listen, it was an amazing experience.” Sharing the ring with Floyd. It’s a memory I’ll never forget for the rest of my life, that’s for sure. …
“It spread,” Gotti continued. “We are good. we were talking. My dad has been in touch with their team and there’s no bad blood here. It’s work. We did what we had to do, smash it and move on.”
And this work can continue. The scuffle turned Mayweather’s unannounced show event into major news, and Gotti III said they’re already in negotiations to turn things back.
“We’re in talks right now, actually, to do something,” he said. So we’ll see where it goes. From what I understood, after the fight, it was the most Googled thing in the entire world.
“Floyd is a businessman. Floyd wants to take advantage of that. He wants to make money. So if they want to do it again, I’m here, and I promise you this time, I’ll come out guns blazing as soon as the bell rings, and we’ll fight now.”
Gotti III added his confidence in getting a “sky high” rematch, and that they’re looking for something to come in October. That schedule doesn’t quite align with Gotti’s six-month suspension handed down by the Florida Incident Commission, but he believes his team will be able to lift his suspension.
So, if everything lines up, Gotti III and Mayweather will go head-to-head again soon, and for all that has been said about crushing beef, it looks like Gotti III still has some resentment heading into the rematch.
“Now I’m going to the next fight,” he said, “and it’s personal.” “Now we’ll fight, and I’ll take it to him every second of the round. Going into the first fight, I admired Floyd and that love and respect. It’s different now. When you cross certain lines with talking, it now becomes personal to me. Floyd didn’t have to go there. Neither Me too… It got personal for both of us. Now, it’s a war between me and Floyd.”
