Jillian Robertson makes a quick conversion.
Robertson returned at strawweight in April and knocked out Piera Rodriguez in the first round. After the win, Tabatha called out Ricci and got her wish because she’ll be back after just two months at UFC Jacksonville.
“I fought on Saturday and I had the contract next Thursday. It’s a very quick turnaround and it’s even a quick turnaround mentally once you get the contract you go back and focus,” Robertson said on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com. “I’m going to have a lot of fan support, but I would have loved to have on the Canada Card. I’m just ready to get back there.”
Although Robertson returns soon, she is excited about the deduction since Richie has accepted her explanation. The Canadian also believes she deserves the opportunity to fight an opponent rated at strawweight after being rated flyweight before.
“I’m not surprised it happens so soon because of the number of fights I’ve had in the UFC,” said Robertson. “I knew I was at this level and after my last fight I called Tabatha Ricci, the only reason she was Rank 15. I think I deserve to be there and plan to show it on June 24th.”
Entering the fray, Jillian Robertson knows that Tabatha Ricci is a great wrestler, too. Normally, when two wrestlers fight, it turns into an amazing fight, but at UFC Jacksonville, Robertson will welcome the floor because she thinks she can introduce Richie.
“It adds more to the fight. I always go for the finish, usually an armbar or choke, expecting to be able to get it… With me, I don’t shy away from grappling exchanges because I’m a different kind of wrestler,” Robertson said. “It’s a different kind of high press, a lot of ground and pounds that changes the game. I’m not shy about it, if she wants to take me down, I’m aggressive off my back.”
If Jillian Robertson introduces Tabatha Ricci at UFC Jacksonville as you might expect, the Canadian already has a name in mind as she plans to call up Mackenzie Dern.
Commenters have talked about Mackenzie Dern being the queen of submission but I sit here wanting more respect. I’m going to keep pushing the record away and making sure she can’t touch it… I’m not over Tabatha at all but maybe that’s the next step For me, so hopefully Mackenzie will be across the octagon from me next time,” concluded Robertson.
