While Luka Doncic has been out of the competition picture this year in the NBA, the Western Conference team is said to be keeping an eye on his current situation with the Dallas Mavericks.
He also discussed the Brooklyn Nets’ offseason primer with fellow The Athletic in Alex Schiffer, John Hollinger. male said that the Utah Jazz are “watching very closely” on Doncic’s placement in the Mavericks camp.
With Dallas failing to secure a spot in the playoffs in controversial and disappointing fashion just a year after the Conference Finals, all eyes are really on the franchise’s upcoming response heading into the offseason as they will look to retool and surround the Slovenian phenomenon with such a solid support team.
In his exit interview with the team in 2022-23, Doncic stated that there definitely had to be changes across the club. Although he insisted there should be no concerns to be formed, there is no doubt that the pressure is still on the Mavs as they hope to meet his competitive needs and come back from this year’s hellish campaign.
And if they fail which could convince Doncic to part ways, the Jazz has every reason to be interested and create a compelling package to knock the superstar out.
Having picked up the lucrative future Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers on their cusp of success in last year’s Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell deal, the Jazz are well equipped and keeping their patience for whatever great player will be available that they can target for a trade. Besides, they have young and promising talents like Colin Sexton, Taleen Horton-Tacker, and Ochai Agbagi who could be made as attractive offers.
For now, the Mavericks have been clearing the way for how they can extend their relationship with Doncic. But if they ultimately fail in another game, the Jazz are undoubtedly the only club that will scramble and make the necessary efforts to lure all the stars away.
