PFL CEO Peter Murray says Jake Paul, who has turned into a boxer, can still fight Nate Diaz in an MMA match.
Paul recently announced that he will be boxing Diaz, the former UFC star, this summer in Dallas. Of course, Paul also signed with the PFL recently and is expected to make his MMA debut in early 2024. While he has a boxing match with Diaz, he’s still fully expected to compete in MMA, and his first fight could come against Diaz.
Speaking to the media after the recent PFL 3 event, PFL CEO Murray said there was a chance Paul could put Diaz first and then rematch with him in MMA.
“I heard directly from Jake. Absolutely. We had that conversation as a potential deal with the focus on what made sense. Focus on the boxing first, and we’ll see what happens after the fight. We’ll see if Nate gets into the cage to potentially end that score. But what I can tell you is That when Jake makes his debut next year, it will be against a top talent, Murray said (trans MMAjunkie.com).
According to Murray, Paul was honing his mixed martial arts skills prior to his professional debut.
“He’s committed. He’s not only an exceptionally committed athlete as it relates to boxing, but he’s preparing, he’s doing work to advance his game in MMA, and he’s going to make his debut next year. Those plans are in the works and there are joint talks about who the opponent will be, what the timing will be,” Murray said. And I can tell you he’s excited about it and it’s going to happen next year.
