Jack Jenkins defeated Jamall Emmers via split decision Saturday on the preliminary card at UFC on ABC 5 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
Take a look inside the battle with Jenkins, who won for the ninth time in a row.
Jenkins at the crucial moment of the fight
“He got a couple of really crunchy hits. He landed a big right hook – it might have been a left hook – that went straight down the pipe, which was a really good shot. But I hit him with a really nice check hook early in the third round where he took a big step and threw that hand Right hand, and I kind of went down and slammed him with the check hook and he paused for a second. He looked at me. He said, ‘That was a good shot.’ I was like, ‘Okay — respect.'” Thanks.'”
Jenkins on the split decision
“(I wasn’t) totally confident, but I thought I did enough the first two, especially at the end of each round, to get him done. I was open to the fact that Jamal was going to be the best guy I ever fought. I prepared like this, and then I fought like that. I gave him his respect and he gave me my respect , and I felt like I had done more damage. That was how the fight ended.”
Jenkins on what he wants next
“I want to fight Nate Landwehr – ‘Nate the Train’ – in Sydney. He briefly missed out on the top 15 against Dan Egge, who I don’t think is a top 15 player. I think Dan Egge is in the top five, and he’s been disqualified.” Just in a decision there. Nate the train ‘Get down to Sydney. We’ll open the main card or close the lead – winner gets to 15th in the standings.'”
