Arnold Allen reacted after losing to Max Holloway in Kansas City, saying, “I took half my paycheck, I missed my winning streak, and I missed out on a title shot.”
Allen lost a competitive decision in the main event of UFC Kansas City in the biggest fight of his MMA career to date. Considering that Allen had won all 10 of his fights in the UFC heading into the Holloway bout, fans and the media already knew he was a good fighter. But by going five rounds with Holloway and fighting tooth and nail for 25 minutes, Allen proved to the MMA community that he is an elite fighter and one of the best in his division.
But while fans and the media have been nothing but compliments on Allen’s performance, the Brit is hard on himself for his performance. Talking to MMAFighting.com’s The MMA Hour In a recent interview, Allen said he didn’t snatch any moral victory, given he had other things to lose by suffering defeat to Holloway.
“There’s no victory. I’ve taken half my paycheck, I’ve lost my winning streak, I’ve lost a shot at a title. There’s no moral victory,” Allen said.
As far as Allen goes, although his performance wasn’t nearly as bad as he originally thought, the fact that he lost his first UFC match in a fight he thought he could win doesn’t make things any easier for himself.
“It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. I didn’t feel like winning then and I don’t feel now, but it’s not as bad as I thought. A lot of people said I should be proud of him doing five rides and pushing the pace on Max.” I’m not proud of myself. I expect a lot of myself. He’s who he is and he’s one of the best players if not the best of all time. He’s going to be a Hall of Famer, he’s great but it doesn’t make me feel better because I expect more from myself. It’s a little more frustrating because I know I could have done a job Better I should have done better,” Allen said.
