The Washington Capitals had their three-game win streak snapped after falling to the New York Islanders 3-0. This is the second time this season that the Capitals have been held scoreless for 60 minutes. It was one of those games where they dominated, but could not finish on their opportunities. It was the exact opposite story for the Islanders. Here is how it went down.
PERIOD 1
22 seconds into the first period, Ryan Pulock let a wrister go from the blue line and it appeared to be redirected in front, giving the Islanders a 1-0 lead. Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri had the helpers.

Washington would go a man-up, but did not convert.
After the Capitals had lots of sustained pressure and chances, Simon Holmstrom extended New York’s lead on a two-on-one with Hudson Fasching. It was the Isles’ second shot of the game.

The Capitals would once again go on another power-play and did not get a shot on goal.
The Islanders would head into the second period on the power-play after Anthony Mantha took a late holding penalty. The Capitals led in the shot category 8-2 and had 30 shot attempts.
PERIOD 2
The Capitals got an abbreviated power play and failed to capitalize. Darcy Kuemper got his first official save of the game at the 14:46 mark of the second period. Washington had four shots on goal through the first seven minutes of the middle stanza, including a puck that hit the crossbar.
Brock Nelson gave the Isles a three goal cushion on a three-on-two rush. Pierre Engvall and Scott Mayfield had the helpers. Kuemper was caught deep in his crease and the Islanders had three goals on five shots.

Rasmus Sandin put New York on its second power play of the night after being called for a trip. The Caps killed it off headed into the final intermission. Washington led 12-8 in shots on goal after the second.
PERIOD 3
T.J. Oshie almost got the Capitals on the board, but the goal was called back due to goaltender interference. The Caps have now had four goals called back in their last five contests.
The Caps pulled Kuemper with about three minutes to go in the game.
