Having a strong stance and athletic spin will help you generate more power in your golf swing. While it can be difficult for many amateurs to maintain consistency with every shot, GOLF Top 100 instructor Jason Baile, Director of Instructions for the Jupiter Hills Club, offers an easy solution. You only need a little Alignment sticks To try!
In the video above, Bailey shares alignment stick drills that can be done from just about anywhere, as it doesn’t even involve swinging a golf club!
To set up the drill, place the two alignment sticks on the ground – one at the “T” and the other at about 45 degrees to the target.
Once you have setup, you will start working on your lower body axis.
So I’m going to put this up [club] Straight across the hip sockets, I’ll lift my left hip, come back to my back, and load the inside of the trail heel,” says Bailey. “This will bring the club parallel to the alignment stick at a 45-degree angle.”
Practice this motion until you feel comfortable, then switch to the upper body of this alignment stick drill—which will help you with rotation.
“When I get to the upper body, I’ll try to drive the butt end of the golf club about halfway into the club here,” he adds. “It holds me back, keeps my shoulders level, and allows me to get a truly dynamic, loaded position at the top of the backswing.”
Keep using this alignment stick drill to warm up and relax your muscles, while providing a reference point for where your rotation and stance should be on your golf swing. Soon enough, you’ll be hitting longer shots – which are sure to amaze your gaming partners.
