Ian Machado-Gary could be ready for a great homecoming soon.
The welterweight contender picked up the biggest win of his career in UFC Charlotte, becoming the first fighter to knock out Daniel Rodriguez when he put the veteran in the first round. . Most importantly, he has established himself as a star on the rise.
Although pleased with the reception he received in Charlotte, Machado Garry accepted the suggestion that fighting in his native Dublin would raise his fame to another level.
“If I receive Irish support in Ireland, in Dublin, nowhere else will it be louder than when I am at home and feel that the Irish deserve support,” said Machado Gary. MMA watch. “The Irish deserve the crowd, they deserve to show the UFC back to Ireland. We’ve done so much for the sport. The sport is booming right now. I totally smash it. I’ll be number 15 tomorrow.
“Obviously you’ve got Conor coming back, whenever he’s coming back against Chandler. And then you look at it, we’ve got three Irish champions from the Cage Warriors. We’ve got Caolan Loughran, we’ve got Paul Hughes, we’ve got Rhys McKee. Those boys are all about to sign to the UFC right now, So it’s inevitable that the UFC will come back. They’ll come back to Ireland and I’m the guy to make it happen and I’m excited about that. I think after this fight, when I beat Neil Magney, when I smoke someone else in the top 15, I’ll be able to take them back to Europe to breathe Irish rule One more time. To make everyone fuss, light the fire ablaze, and then watch all these guys follow me to the UFC and light the stage again.”
The UFC held three cards in Dublin, the most famous of which happened on July 19, 2014, it was headlined by fellow Dubliners Gary Machado Conor McGregor and Diego Brandao. McGregor defeated Brandao by TKO in the first round, sending the Irish crowd into a frenzy. It remains a defining moment in the career of McGregor, who won two UFC titles and achieved global stardom.
Next to McGregor, he fights Michael Chandler with a date and location yet to be determined after the movie airs Ultimate Warrior 31which features the fighters as opposing trainers.
Machado Jarry said he hasn’t heard of any specific plans to return to Dublin (the last one happened in October 2015), but when it does, he’s determined to be the man at the helm.
“I told them I wanted them to come back and [UFC President] Dana [White] I sat down and said: I know, we’ll work on it. He said. “That’s all he can say. He’s kind of a yes guy, he’s got to say yes at the time, but I think he’s totally going to make it happen. I think when you see the star power that I have, in Charlotte, when you see the performance I came up with and think it was The best opponent I’ve ever fought is in a lot of people’s minds. It was against the toughest guy I ever fought in a lot of people’s minds. Why don’t we go and do it in Ireland and why don’t we go and do it against someone who’s going to bring the crowd?… Can you picture me opposite Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson as the main event in Dublin, Ireland, then stack the card with Irish and European talent from top to bottom. You won’t have to sell any other fighters, you just have me and Wonderboy and you’ll sell it.
“So it makes a lot of sense, and I think Dana will take us back, I think he will be back in Ireland at some point, early next year I think. And I keep winning and showing them that I want them back [journalist] Seán Sheehan before my fight in Cage Warriors: Cork, my third professional fight. I said I would be the guy to bring the UFC back to Dublin. I’ll be that man, who I am. I am close to this. I’m that close. So it’s exciting.”
