I’ve talked before about how my swing sequence came to a really long halt, often resulting in my front shoulder dunking because I was getting hit with the ball.
But after speaking with several top instructors and studying video analysis of my swing, there was a common theme I found I needed to fix to correct the problem: focus on my golf putting.
Having good golf putting is very important for several reasons.
First, and most importantly, proper stance will allow your body to move the right way during the swing. With all the moving parts, your spine should act as the mother, allowing your hips, back, hands and shoulders to do their thing when you come through on impact.
Secondly, when your posture is correct, it will help avoid injuries – which will allow you to play the game more efficiently and for a longer period. Obviously this is a good thing.
So how do you easily work your golf swing stance? According to Jason Bailey, GOLF Top 100 Instructor and Director of Instructions for the Jupiter Hills Club, just use a rubber band.
In the video above, Bailey demonstrates a simple and straightforward standing exercise.
“There are three parts,” he says. “I’m going to clamp my heels together, and then I’m going to work my thighs outward. That’s going to get my glutes working.”
Once you engage your glutes, Bailey says to stand up straight and engage your core. From there, use the elastic band for some stretching to work your back and shoulders.
“Next thing I’m going to do is pull up my belt buckle. Now my core is engaged,” he said. “So I’m going to take this rubber band hidden, [and work my] The shoulder blades are down and back, keeping the glutes engaged and the core engaged. Those are the same kinds of things we want to share in the situation.”
