Great pitchers are a smooth swing. There is no force or blow in their action. But that’s what you see on many golfers’ course swing – too much tension and not enough smoothness.
One exercise can change all of that. Just practice your court swing using only your arm. Take your usual stance and fist on the road and begin to move the paddle back and forth. (Start without a ball first, then add one once you get the right feel.)
All I want you to do is simply swing the putter back and forth, using the sole of your wedge to gently brush the turf as you make your way towards the end. Get the rhythm going – Make your backswing longer and swing shorter, letting the weight of the club create the stroke and helping it release it as you swing past.
Within a few tries, you should feel the tension recede from your hands and shoulders and—surprise—how little turning your body takes to get that shot just right. If you are smitten, this is your treat.
