nMany people have called Orman Swenson Jr. many names: “The Gentleman of Golf” for example, and “Indiana Jones the Golfer”. Perry Swenson Livonius called him “dad”.
Norman learned to play golf at Carmel Country Club, a family club located in the growing southern part of Charlotte, North Carolina. His mother introduced him to the game, and he instantly became addicted, becoming a standout player on the East Mecklenburg High School golf team before playing collegiately at Wake Forest University in 1965-1969.
