Henry Cejudo wastes no time getting back to work.
The former bantamweight champion faces off against Marlon “Chito” Vera at the upcoming UFC 292 card in Boston on Aug. 19.
UFC President Dana White announced the pairing via ESPN on monday.
After a three year long retirement, Cejudo returned to action in May but failed to attempt to regain the 135 pound title by losing a split decision to Aljamin Sterling.
Cejudo has made it clear that he wants to get back to work sooner rather than later. But Merab Dvishvili, his opponent’s first choice, has had hand surgery and won’t be available until the fall.
So Cejudo will instead face Vera that same night when Sterling defends his title against Shawn O’Malley in the main event.
Vera accepted the challenge after falling to Cory Sandhagen in his previous round in March, which ended his four-match winning streak. Prior to this setback, he had taken on names like Dominic Cruz, Rob Font, and Frankie Edgar, which saw him steadily climb the bantamweight ranks.
Now, Vera is trying to add Cejudo to his resume when they meet for a feature match at UFC 292 in Boston.
