Gilton Almeida extended his winning streak to five with a first round win at UFC Charlotte on saturday.
‘Malhadinho’ made easy work of #9 ranked heavyweight contender Jairzinho Rozenstruik on the afternoon’s main event show. ‘Bigi Boi’ tried to apply some early pressure in order to get Almeida backpedaling as a way to combat the inevitable removal bid from the Brazilian superstar. Unfortunately for Rozenstruik, his efforts were ineffective as Almeida was able to wrestle the big man and take control, as expected.
Securing a naked choke submission in the opening round, Jailton Almeida should find himself in the top 10 in the division on Monday morning. He’ll also find his bank account fatter as his finisher nets him a $50,000 performance bonus thanks to UFC President Dana White.
Almeida is now 5-0 inside octagon and 19-2 overall. All of his victories under the UFC banner have come by way of finishing, including his appearance in the 2021 Dana White vs. Nasreddin Nasreddinov bout series. Close to sitting solidly in the top 10 in the division, Almeida is ready to make a huge leap up the ladder, calling out heavyweight favorite Tai Tuivasa during his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier.
His opponent, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, would go back to the drawing board after losing four of his last six fights, though those defeats came against one of the elite heavyweights including Cyryl Gane, Curtis Blaydes, Alexander Volkov and of course Jailton Almeida.
After completing Almeida’s outstanding tournament, MMA fans and fighters flooded Twitter with praise for the budding Brazilian superstar.
