Zion Williamson sparked plenty of commercial whispers earlier this season that the New Orleans Pelicans might consider severing ties with him on reasonable terms.
There is a chance that Pelicans will make Williamson available in the market for the “right position and the right package” according To Chris Haynes from Bleacher Report.
Williamson was notably subject to speculation, especially in the Pelicans’ failed attempt to acquire No. 3 pick Scott Henderson. As such, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski open Apparently, there was no difference offered by the Pelicans to get the star forward.
The former Top 1 pick was a darling in the league going back into 2019-20, but injury and weight issues continued to ruin his chances of realizing his limitless potential. Since his rookie campaign, Williamson has only managed 114 games played. Last season, despite scoring an All-Star career-high 26 points with a solid 60.8 percent efficiency, he was limited to just 29 games after a nagging hamstring injury.
Indeed, Williamson is a generational talent with such a unique combination of size and athleticism, but teams will be largely wary of his injury history and poor playing condition in the past four years despite that sheer desire to acquire him.
If some clubs try to get Williamson, the stakes are already on the table. For now, with the sky-high price tag they have tied for the All-Star, the Pels remain optimistic about their vision with Williamson moving forward.
