All-Star Goalkeeper Matt Greenfield The Yorkshire-based club confirmed Wednesday morning that they will be back with the Sheffield Steelers for a second season.
The 28-year-old American signed a one-year extension at Sheffield after an impressive first season that saw him named Goalkeeper of the Year by the general managers and coaches, as well as being named to the League’s Second All-Star Team. He also swept the board on the Steelers’ special awards night.
Greenfield said: “I had options but after this amazing experience at Sheffield and how well I was treated by the club and the fans the decision to come back wasn’t a hard one. I spoke with Aaron and it didn’t take long for the deal to work out.
“I didn’t know what to expect when I first signed and arrived here, but from one moment on I fell in love with it and feel so proud to have had the opportunity and play in such a great building in front of our crazy fans. From ownership down I’ve been treated so well by everyone at the club And I have an excellent working relationship with the coaching staff.”
Head coach Aaron Fox said: “Greener coming back for another season is definitely a very important piece of the puzzle for us.
“He’s played at a very high level all year and the consistency he’s shown every night has been unmatched. Matt is also a class-leading figure and that’s very important for our dressing room as well. He’s been competing hard in training all week which sets the tone for the weekend.
“We are all, of course, delighted to have him back in Sheffield next season.”
