NICOLASVILLE, Kentucky — Lucas Glover extended his tour streak of 60s to the 10th, topping the Barbasol Championship by two shots, shooting a 4-under 68 in the second round Friday at Ken Tris.
Glover was 13-under-131, and his closest pursuers were Adam Long, Vincent Norman and Daniel Brown.
The 43-year-old Glover switched to a long putter two weeks ago at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and it paid off immediately as he began his career in sub-70 rounds. He tied for fourth that week in Detroit and tied for sixth last week at John Deere Classic.
Glover didn’t make as many putts as he did in the opening 63 on Thursday but was 3-under 14 holes before making his only bogey of the day on the par-4. Then close with birdies in the last two holes.
The four-time PGA Tour winner said his ball hitting, not his position, held him back.
“It was a bit of a struggle today, especially compared to yesterday,” Glover said. “I pushed it very uncharacteristically bad. I didn’t hit enough fairways to hit the ball close to it and take it low again. Happy with the way I finished and happy with the way I rolled it, not many of them were so close today.”
Long and Norman had similar scorecards. They each started on the back nine and made three birdies and two bogeys to turn a 1-under 35, then bowled a bogey-less with four birdies in the front nine to shoot 67.
Long suffers a neck injury as he seeks his second PGA Tour win.
“It was the kind of mild pain I could take,” Long said, “but it wasn’t the sharp pain I felt yesterday.” “There are a few mistakes here and there, but it’s a lot of birding.”
Brown shot 68. The Englishman plays on the European Tour and earns his PGA Tour card by winning the combined event.
“I’m going to try to stay as quiet as I can until 9 a.m. and hopefully we get a chance, fingers crossed,” Brown said.
Four players were three shots: Ryan Moore (70), European Tour players Jayden Schaper (66), Adrian Sadir (66) and Louis de Jager (65).
