The Oilers’ Evander Kane may have finished his season, but the experienced forward is still active in Edmonton, volunteering. On Tuesday evening, Ken posted pictures of a gathering he attended to help his great friend Cecily Eklund, who is battling brain cancer, organize a “fun day for her dear friend Cosmo.” It appears that the young man also suffers from the disease, and Ecklund is part of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, which supports other young patients with cancer. Ken has been doing his best to support his girlfriend, Cecily, on her journey, and the pictures he uploaded to social media went viral.
You may remember Cecily from Game 4 of the first round against the Kings in Los Angeles, where the poor girl suffered from spitting and swearing. Kane criticized attendees who engaged in inappropriate behavior on social media. Many Kings supporters were outraged that the unfortunate young man had to go through such an experience and made the decision to help Cecily with her battle with cancer by sharing Cecily’s Stollery contribution page online and inspiring others to contribute.
It’s great to see that Kane is still helping Cecily and the others make a difference in Edmonton when he’s not focused on the Oilers or the work of the season. Particularly, given the many previous stories about Kane’s poor image, his gambling scandal, and his current nasty custody dispute with his estranged wife.
