Darren Riehl, pardon my opinion
Hey guys, and happy Monday after the PGA Championship!
I’m recovering from the best week of my life, which started at my cousin’s wedding, continued straight into a big week and culminated at a Taylor Swift concert in the pouring rain. My first trip to Rochester that I won’t forget – co-workers and I hit Wegmans, saw some old friends in Oak Hill, and even met Bones Mackay for ice cream at Pittsford Farms Dairy.
It is not unusual for me to strongly believe that I will love I live in a city or area yet to visit on business, but I really mean it about Rochester. The people were wonderful, the homes were amazing and their beloved grocery store was second to none.
Also, one quick shout out: Anyone who knows me, has seen me out, or even caught a glimpse of a Zoom meeting knows I’m not exactly elegant. It’s getting as iconic as the black T-shirt and jeans (the original, I know) – but I always have a hard time figuring out what to wear on site at a tournament. So thanks to my new friends at Adidas for making my week easier by picking out a few looks for me. They saved me a lot of time in the morning and, more importantly, from more humiliation in my family group chat. These were some of my favorite items in Oak Hill.

Now – to work!
Michael Block
Sam Bennett. 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team. The nerdy girl who ends up with the jock at the high school rom-com. We’re here at Rogers Report love A good underdog story. And for that reason, we adore Michael Block. As far as I’m concerned, there were two winners at Oak Hill on Sunday: golf club teaching professionals Brooks Koepka and Arroyo Trabuco.
Block’s performance at Oak Hill – especially the ace he made against Rory McIlroy on Sunday – was amazing, but I firmly believe his performance in an advert for Arroyo Trabuco is his greatest.
Has anyone ever starred in a major and won an Oscar in the same year? If not, Block is about to make more history.
I think what I like about Block so much (besides his talent, of course) is that he was (for lack of a better term) a “regular guy” to experience all of this, which made him feel somewhat relatable.
He did not hide his excitement at all. He’s been wearing his heart on his sleeve all week. Block also gained 143,000 new followers on Instagram — but hey, who’s counting? (Block. Block was counting. He admitted it on Saturday, and that was before the ace took things to the next level.)
Brooks and Rory hug
LIV THIS, PGA TOUR THAT! Did Brooks Kupka and Roy McIlroy put Us vs. Them to bed with a single hug Sunday night in Rochester?
Mostly not! But this was a great moment to behold. Shout out to visual mastermind Darren Riehl for always capturing the really good stuff. At the end of the video, Koepka says “See you guys. I’ll shout to you later.” So far my curiosity is very curious. Did Koepka mean it the same way I “mean” it when I tell my friends I’ll meet them at the bar later despite my plans to be in bed by 9pm? Or was he actually going to text/call McIlroy? Now did he? These are the questions that keep me up at night, folks.
Wanamaker Cup
If you see Brooks Koepka full swing episode on Netflix, you might have learned a few things. The first is that platinum blonde hair isn’t for everyone! Second, Koepka was in a pretty dark place last year.
That was it very Great for his return to being “official”, though he almost won the Masters and had a few victories on LIV Golf. And since he and his wife, Gina, are expecting their first child, let’s put some perspective on his major tournament victories.
Koepka has now won three majors in New York.
Is it the Empire State’s most successful sports franchise? Few people (myself and I) say this.
He drank Wanamaker’s Koepka while chatting to the guys from Pardon My Take Sunday night, and said he very Hard to drink. You know what they say: God gives his fiercest battles to his great champions!
Then his Nogee chef, who travels to most events with Koepka to feed him well, also gets a drink from him.
But where was Koepka’s wife, Jenna, during all of this? She was incredibly applauding those who noticed her absence.
Well played, Gina. Then I took to TikTok to explain the TRUE Reason she’s not there: She’s a Sports Illustrated swimsuit finalist and was throwing some events for it over the weekend.
It’s safe to say it was a big weekend for both members of the Sims-Koepka power couple.
Hats off at Oak Hill
While I was dealing with Taylor Swift’s rainy Saturday concert at Gillette Stadium, the pros were dealing with their weather in Oak Hill. And when it starts raining from the brim of the players’ hats, it calls for their heart. I’m sure “hoods don’t belong on the golf course!” The gang hated the move to such a historic place, but I was a huge fan.
My vision took me back to my high school golf days.
Then it reminded me of my college days, where boys loved nothing but boat shoes, red Nantucket shorts and a backwards hat.
I can’t say in good conscience that I miss those days, but it was nice to think of all the times I stood awkwardly in the basement corner pretending to text while counting down the minutes until the Uber arrived. Ah, how far have we come.
Brooks Koepka’s love for social media
It is always interesting to see who congratulates the main winners on the Internet. Here are some of my favorite congratulations tweets from Brooks Koepka. We’ll start off strong with Bryson DeChambeau, who has a long history with Koepka.
Consider the buried hatchet! Then we have another handful of pros, none of whom sum it all up as perfectly as Max Homma.
People’s wagon takes over Oak Hill
Gino Bonali full swing Star and caddy for Joel Dahmen, they took on Oak Hill the day after the PGA Championship. Bonnalie is a sweet player in his own right, and we’re lucky he documented his entire tour on Twitter.
Talk about a guy who knows his game. Bonali was right when he predicted how his Sunday afternoon tour would turn out.
And like any golfer, his success was noticed by the media.
Congratulations to GNU! I’m sure those autographs he signed at Oak Hill last week will sell for a price a lot on ebay.
