A thrilling UFC 290 flyweight fight has finally been cancelled.
UFC Charlotte descended tonight (Saturday, May 13, 2023) from inside the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, NC During the post-fight press conference (Watch Here), UFC President Dana White revealed that the scheduled Flyweight bout between Deiveson Figueiredo and Manel Kape is now off Apparently because the former Flyweight Champion is moving to Bantamweight.
“I thought she was [on] Yesterday, White told reporters. “So yeah, and then he said no to someone, and then I heard again yesterday, yeah, and now he’s telling me he’s getting on with the weight. Who the hell knows, man. Who the hell knows. That’s the Gemini we have to deal with on a daily basis.” .
She said it was a giant “said” game over the past few months between Figueiredo and Kip. As of this past Thursday (May 11th), Figueiredo told MMA Fighting that he wasn’t fighting; However, Kape told MMA Mania that he had been confirmed by the matchmakers that the fight would take place.
Now that “Deus da Guerra” has told the UFC he’s moving weight, the fight can finally go dark and be put into a “what if” file. Figueiredo jumped up to the bantamweight division after losing to Brandon Moreno at UFC 283 earlier this year in Brazil, but so far he’s been staying at flyweight for at least three more fights.
For Kape, he must have walked under a ladder because he has terrible luck booking a fight and even a fight. “Starboy” has had six canceled fights in two years within the UFC, including two that were canceled within one fight day.
