Avondale, LA — Nick Hardy and Davis Riley birdied four of the final six holes — highlighted by Riley’s 33-foot birdie putt from the fringe on the par-3 17 — to give both players their first PGA Tour victory on the Tour Zurich Classic on Sunday.
They started the final round with three shots back and concluded with a 7-under 65 in alternating play to finish with a tournament-record total of 30-under 258 at TPC Louisiana, surpassing the 259 posted by 2022 winners Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schavelli. Hardy and Riley were better than Canadians Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor.
Riley’s previous best finish was a playoff loss to Sam Burns at the 2022 Valspar Championships. The best of Hardy’s was a tie for fifth at last fall’s Sanderson Farms tournament.
They each receive $1.24 million and receive a two-year exemption for winning the only team event on the PGA Tour.
Hadwin and Taylor shot 63, tying the record for alternate shot set in the second round on Friday by Cantlay and Schavelli. The Canadiens’ tenth and final birdie of the round on the 13th hole briefly gave them a one-stroke lead, and they went club par first before the eventual champions pared two more.
Windham Clark and Bo Haussler, who finished each of the first three rounds atop the leaderboard and opened the final round by one stroke, made their first three bogeys of the tournament – two on the last three holes – and sealed the match. 1-under 71 to finish in third place, three shots back.
Cantlay and Scheuvelli made eight birdies before their second bogey on the 18th left them tied for fourth with Matthew Neismith and Taylor Moore at 26-under.
