Cowboys’ Mike McCarthy feels good after surgery, set to coach – Todd Archer, ESPN
McCarthy returned to the Cowboys Friday with a certain hip-hop star’s song playing when he entered the room.
Two days after surgery to remove his appendix, Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is back at The Star and said he plans to be on the sideline calling plays Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I feel good and anticipate everything staying normal Sunday night,” McCarthy said on his scheduled conference call Friday.
McCarthy’s return to the Cowboys was made in style. According to running back Tony Pollard, 50 Cent’s “Many Men” was playing as the coach walked into the offense’s meeting for the first time since the start of the week.
“It was a cool little entrance,” Pollard said, adding he was happy for his coach to be healthy because “it’s bigger than football.”
Video: Cowboys’ Dak Prescott Jokes About Haters in Colon Cancer Screening Commercial – Adam Wells, Bleacher Report
Prescott delivered an important message and had a little fun doing it.
Playing quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys requires you to have thick skin because of the scrutiny that comes with it, as Dak Prescott proved in a new ad promoting colon cancer screenings.
The two-time Pro Bowler joked about his haters in the commercial, which includes clips of people criticizing his game.
Not only that, Prescott turns the joke into a useful tool by urging viewers to put a sticker of something they don’t like on the sample collection container if they are prescribed a home-screening kit from their doctor.
Some of the example stickers Prescott uses include a dolphin, miner and eagle. There are also stickers of a bill and lion shown in the ad.
Prescott has acknowledged he hears the criticism of his game because it’s “hard to miss,” even though he doesn’t seek it out and it’s “it’s not going to stop” whether or not he complains about it.
This is a rather ingenious way of using the actual voice of his haters for a good cause.
The timing of it does lend itself to some unfortunate jokes if Prescott doesn’t play well on Sunday when the Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles at AT&T Stadium in a crucial matchup that will determine who is in first place in the NFC East.
CeeDee Lamb describes ‘bad taste’ from Philly loss – Nick Harris, DallasCowboys.com
The Cowboys don’t want a repeat of what happened in Philadelphia.
The last time the Cowboys and Eagles squared off at Lincoln Financial Field in week nine, CeeDee Lamb turned in a career-high performance of 191 yards on 11 receptions, but his huge day came just a few yards short on the final play of the game in the 28-23 loss.
The Cowboys are 4-0 since that loss with wins over New York, Carolina, Washington and Seattle by an average of 24 points. The focus has been high since that loss, and it has Lamb and his teammates ready to redeem their last loss on Sunday night.
“We obviously had a bad taste in our mouths not coming out victorious,” Lamb said. “But we got to lock in, obviously hone in on the penalties, and try to put our best game yet together on the season. By doing that, we got to be physical, fast, be hungry.”
Considering the playoff and seeding implications of the Sunday night clash, it’s tough to find another game on the 17-game schedule more important than this one. While the high stock in the final result has been put in by the Cowboys during the week, taking the same approach to the field on Sunday night will be just as important.
“It doesn’t change, but [there’s] obviously a lot riding on it,” Lamb said. “For what it is, it’s a big game, but at the end of the day, it is still a game. Take it one play at a time, one moment at a time, continue to drive and be a better version of myself and put great reps together.”
This might be Cowboys’ key to avoiding another Terence Steele fiasco vs Eagles – Reid Hanson, Cowboys Wire
Terence Steele’s play must improve in this rematch.
Reviewing the footage, Steele appeared to react slowly to the snap which provided a negative trickle-down effect to his entire pass-protecting sequence. Crowd noise could have very conceivably played a role in this, which luckily isn’t a concern Sunday night at AT&T Stadium.
Overall, Steele was beaten inside and outside, with both speed and power. It was a family variety pack of pressures, offering a little bit of everything for film reviewers searching for identifiable weaknesses.
The obvious answer to the Steele problem is to give him support in the form of double-teams and chip blocks. Though, asking RBs and TEs to help him on the right side isn’t a cure all nor does come without consequences. Prescott needs targets down the field and if extra players stay in and help block, he loses them as passing options, making things much harder for him and his WRs.
Another solution is to avoid straight dropback passing. Mike McCarthy has leaned on more quick game, screens, play-action and rollouts as a way to protect his MVP candidate. Per Sumer Sports, Prescott has one of the lowest pure dropback rates in the NFL this season. That’s by design.
It just so happens, all of Steele’s sacks, hits, hurries and pressures came when the Cowboys were in true pass sets. It stands to reason, all Steele needs is more play-action, RPO and screens from McCarthy this go-around.
Cowboys: Latest injury update will make Eagles game much more difficult – Mauricio Rodriguez, AtoZ Sports
Dallas is healthy, but Philadelphia is getting a key player back.
The Dallas Cowboys will take on the Philadelphia Eagles at AT&T Stadium in Week 14 in a must-watch (and must-win) NFC East clash.
What is better than a late-season Cowboys-Eagles showdown on Sunday Night Football when both teams are legit Super Bowl contenders? Not much.
Even better, both squads will enter the game relatively healthy, per the injury reports. Even Mike McCarthy is set to coach the ballgame after receiving surgery earlier in the week.
Perhaps no injury update is as important as one on the Eagles’ side, however: TE Dallas Goedert is set to return after suffering an injury in Week 9 against this very Cowboys team.
Goedert was a full participant all week and carries no game designation ahead of the pivotal game. Cowboys fans shouldn’t overlook this as Goedert’s absence is one of the big reasons why the Eagles have been inconsistent on offense as of late.
