The Dallas Cowboys training camp is basically here and it won’t be long before the hype starts for our favorite new players on this football team. But before that had a chance to happen, we thought it would be a fun exercise to identify our favorite pet cat candidates before everyone else has a chance to hop on board. There is usually only one draft pick per person, and he is defined as either a late draft draft pick or an undrafted free agent. But this year, if you’re having a hard time deciding on just one player, don’t worry because we’ve separated the cats into four different groups.

- Late favorite draft pick
- Signature Undrafted Free Agent Preferred
- My favorite ex-cat cat gets a second chance
Let’s go through the furry little creatures of each breed.

position | player | from | salary |
---|---|---|---|
position | player | from | salary |
RB | Ronald Jones II | Kansas City Chiefs | $1,232,500 |
O.L | Choma Eduga | Atlanta Falcons | $1,232,500 |
L.S | Trent victory | Las Vegas Raiders | $1,232,500 |
to | Ben Banogo | Indianapolis Colts | $1,080,000 |
K | Tristan Vizcaino | Arizona Cardinals | $997,500 |
K | Brandon Aubrey | Birmingham Stallions (USFL) | $898,333 |
If you think Ronald Jones can capture the 2020 Tampa Bay flick, he could be an interesting pick since the Cowboys have a lot of question marks behind Tony Pollard. Chuma Edoga can be a good attacking backup and is one of the many names around at left guard. Trient Sieg has a stranglehold on the long snapper position since he’s the only one currently on the list, but nobody cares about him unless he’s bad. It is a flick about who will win the kicker task between two unknown wild cards in Tristan Vizcaino and Brandon Aubry.
My free agent pet cat: Choma Eduga
Considering I had my eyes on him this time a year ago, I’d keep rolling him if for no other reason than to make Chumbawamba jokes.
Keep an eye out for Jets RT Chuma Edoga on these four plays. Good length, good balance and no panic. It would be a solid addition. Engage me! https://t.co/PvsFYZt2Lz

5 | O.L | Asim Richards | North Carolina |
6 | DB | Eric Scott Jr | Southern Miss |
6 | RB | Duos Phone | Kansas State |
7 | WR | Galen Brooks | South Carolina |
For late renewal selections, we will remove any player selected within the first four rounds of eligibility. With that in mind, odds makers likely have Deuce Vaughn as the most likely candidate to earn pet cat votes especially if he shows up in those big runs in the preseason. Or we could go the other way and take the team’s most shaky draft pick when they traded in unknown cornerback Eric Scott Jr., or the even more confusing selection of wide receiver Jalen Brooks. Then there’s the nobody hates it / nobody likes it picking Asim Richards which surprised some of us because he’s not an experienced goalkeeper and that’s what we were all expecting.
My late pet cat: Asim Richards
The Cowboys have gotten really good at finding sleeping offensive line gems. And with Terence Steele rehabilitated and the team keeping Tyron Smith healthy, there should be plenty of opportunities for the young Cowboys to show their stuff. Richards comes with some practical attributes, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he created some buzz at training camp and became an important part of their future.
#Cowboys Round 5 lineman Asim Richards is getting good, great lower body strength, good movement, tackle and left guard, just a few coaching points away from being really good. Sometimes it’s an ugly winner but it’s a good competition winner. Foskey gave fits pic.twitter.com/aMcENHVNlm

A couple of months ago, we considered which UDFA would be most likely to earn a spot on the list. Hunter Luepke is an easy pick for a pet cat, but Oregon guard TJ Bass was another exciting player because of the questionable competition ahead of him. And there are several interesting wide receivers that could challenge the WR4’s place behind the main three.
My pet cat UDFA: David Durden
Bass is still the player to watch, but to mix it up a bit and choose something other than an offensive line, we’ll go with the West Florida pass passer. Durden brings a variety of skills ranging from a man of possession to a deep threat. He also does something on special teams as a returner and gunner, and those kinds of things can land your ticket on the list.

And let’s not ignore some familiar names who didn’t get a chance to shine last season for one reason or another. The numbers of offensive or defensive surprise attacks are listed above. Who do you take from this group?
There are a lot of interesting options here. We’re all curious what Matt Waletzko would do if his shoulder could hold because he could be the best option on the team for the swing rings. Markquese Bell has some good skills, but the Cowboys are stacked safe. And let’s not forget the pet cat of many last year, Dennis Houston, who would purr at training camp, but then disappear once the regular season started.
Remember who your pet cat was at last year’s Dallas Cowboys training camp? How was it working out?

My second chance pet cat: Devin Harper
The Cowboys saw something in him last year and it will be interesting to see how he bounces back after suffering an Achilles tendon injury last year. Outside of Leighton Vander Esch and Damon Clarke, the Cowboys have plenty of “what ifs” at linebackers, and If only Harper could benefit from his sportHe can be a sneaky guy with good depth and extends to little more than a special teams contributor.
