McCarthy Brings ‘Edge’ to Cowboys Offensive with Return to Play – Schuyler Dixon, USA Today
Zach Martin thinks Mike McCarthy brings and excels at playing.
“It’s more of a behavioral transaction.” [Zack] Martin said. “That’s the best way I can describe it. The plays aren’t going to change. We’re going to run our own inside zone, out zone. I think it’s just the mentality and the attitude that we’re going to achieve and that advantage you talked about.”

The shift to McCarthy’s call plays, with Brian Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator and former NFL linebacker Scott Tolzien as his post coach, meant something of a re-hiring of Prescott.
“It definitely rebounded,” Prescott said. “Just the details of everything worked out. It sharpened my focus, sharpened everyone’s focus. You have the intentions. You know the purpose of the plays. It’s definitely refreshing and exciting.”
McCarthy has sometimes thought over the past three years about missing his days as a play caller. Now the 59-year-old is back at the front of the room in meetings with the offense and linebackers, which backup Cooper Rush says has been kind of fun.
McCarthy had to admit it was him, too.
“Everything goes into making a game plan,” McCarthy said. “This is the guy who will compete on match day with the coordinator on the other side of the field. I think it’s natural for me to enjoy that.”
3 Early Surprise Snaps From Mandatory Cowboys Junior Camp – Jerry Trotta, The Landry Hat
Who will be the team’s player in 2023 is anyone’s guess, but Tristan Vizcaino is making his early case for the gig.
The mandatory mini-team Dallas Cowboys kicked off Tuesday. The team was scheduled to have some 11-on-11 drills, but Mike McCarthy told the media that they were holding it at 7-on-7 to avoid being fined after getting penalized by the coach in the past two years for officiating the drills. which was considered very physical.
There will be more takeaways in the coming days to analyze. For now, let’s underline a few early surprises from the junior camp.
3. Tristan Vizcaino, K.
Cowboys 2023 The starting player (most likely) is not currently on the listbut Vizcaino did everything he could to maintain at least a spot on the practice squad by performing in OTAs and minicamp.
After a strong showing in OTA, Vizcaino hit all nine of his field goals on Tuesday, including a long 55-yard run. It should be noted that Vizcaino kicks without interference from an attacking line or a quick pass, but he certainly faces some kind of pressure every time he lines up for a kick.
It’s not a large sample size by any means, but Vizcaino has never missed more than two field goals in any practice. He was wonky from a distance (50 yards or more), but fans have to appreciate how accurate he is at first.
Cowboys add former 2nd round draft pick on defensive end – Todd Brock, Cowboys Wire
Another camp corpse was added to an already crowded room.
The Cowboys added another defensive end to their roster.
The club signed Ben Banogo on Wednesday, taking their current cap to 89 players, just short of the cap.
Banogu was a second-round draft pick Indianapolis Colts In 2019. The Nigerian born grew up in and graduated from the Dallas/Fort Worth area TCU.
The 27-year-old appeared in 50 games over four seasons with the Colts, collecting 29 tackles, three TFLs, six leading hits, 2.5 sacks, one pass defensed and one forced fumble.
At 6-foot-3 and 252 pounds, Banogu fits the physical appearance that the Cowboys love to see on their ends. He’s known as an uber-sports player who probably wouldn’t have fit so well in the scheme run by Matt Eberflus, the former Colts defensive coordinator. It’s worth noting that he saw action in 16 games last season under new DC Gus Bradley, having only played in nine games in each of the two previous years.
