Predicted NFL Draft Day 2023: Predict Round 1, QB picks – Seth Walder, ESPN
The Cowboys continue to be associated with tight ends throughout the draft process.
Which team is most likely to pick a tight end in the first round?
We can not completely Answer this question using a draft day prediction because it predicts picks, not teams, but we can get pretty close. Answer: no Dallas Cowboys.
Dallas lost Dalton Schultz In free agency and also drafting what appears to be a reasonable range for either Utah Dalton Kincaid or Notre Dame Michael Meyer. (This is also the beginning of the Georgia domain Darnell Washington.) All in all, the draft day predictor says there is a 23% chance of picking a tight end at #26 pick.
Mailbag: Should the Cowboys be a kicker? – Nick Eatman, Kurt Daniels – DallasCowboys.com
The Cowboys still have a vacant kicker spot, so could they look to fill it in the draft?
Nick: I usually say no to this. But if you look at last year, the Cowboys had a few kickers they loved that were drafted but were also very high on Jonathan Garibay, from Texas Tech, and signed him after the draft. This obviously didn’t work because he didn’t make it out of camp. This isn’t to say that there won’t be some off-roster kickers, and most of the ones the Cowboys have had over the years, haven’t been drafted. But if they like kicking and he’s there in the fifth or sixth round, I don’t know why you don’t. Games are too close to not invest more resources in the kicking game. As long as he takes kicks in pressure situations and will be a regular kick-off man, I should have no problem with that.
Kurt: I hate the idea of spending a draft pick on a kicker, but the thing is, I’m not sure why. I mean, the kicker has to be one of the most important positions on the team, right? Games are literally won and lost by kickers. Given that the last time a non-kicker led the league in points was 17 years ago when LaDainian Tomlinson totaled 186 points (an NFL record), why not spend a little late capital here? Well, because history shows that a signature undrafted kicker is just as much a product, if not more. Look at the statistical leaders last year. Of the top 10 kickers in points, seven were not drafted, and of the three who were, two are no longer with the team that first selected them. In the field of goals scored, six were undrafted and none of the other four were with their home clubs. For field goal percentage, eight went without a draft and the remaining two are now elsewhere as well. So even though kickers can make or break a season, given the Cowboys’ other areas of need, spending the pick on one might not be the best use of the Dallas draft’s assets.
Cowboys drafting a tight end in the first round would be madness — Richard Paolinelli, Inside Star
Although the tight end is preferred, the idea has its critics.
Do the Cowboys even need to worry about the situation in the beginning? honestly no.
If Dallas is worried about the players on the roster – Jake Ferguson And Peyton Hendershot – In this position, they would not have allowed it Dalton Schultz He goes. Especially when they could have re-signed him fairly cheaply afterward Free agency The market stumbled.
The Cowboys have two very tight ends on the roster already. It is not a need situation. There are options available later in the draft.
Taking South Dakota State’s Tucker Kraft in the third or fourth round would be the right play. He was a solid receiver for the Jackrabbits during the National Championships last year. It is a solid blocker.
Two more players will be available in the middle rounds at center, freeing up Dallas for larger needs.
Cowboys feel good about Josh Paul, Matt Waltzko; He’ll likely still draft an early OL – Todd Brock, Cowboys Wire
The Cowboys are considering changing the position of some offensive linemen.
“I don’t think you can get enough of them,” Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said Monday during Preliminary draft of the team’s press conferenceAnd Mike [McCarthy, head coach] We’ll agree with that. We should draft one, as you wish it were, in the first three or four rounds every year. “
dallas I made it Priority No. 1 last year, taking Tulsa Tyler Smith With the twenty-fourth choice. All the rookie did in return was tackle the eight-time Pro Bowler and lead the entire team in shots for the season.
So forgive the Cowboys’ cerebral confidence if they’re leaning toward returning to that streak with the 26th overall pick this weekend.
Even with Perennial All-Pro Zack Martinthe impressive Tyler Smith, and he’s back Tyrone Smithup-and-comer Terrence Steeleand very strong Tyler Biadachethe Cowboys admit they still have a need up front.
“look at me Cincinnati Last year, where they were trying to get over the injuries,” Jones added. “You look at Kansas City over the years, trying to get over the injuries. We had our share of injuries last year, of course, with Steele and Tyrone missing some time. You can’t get enough of these guys. That’s why we put a premium on crafting it.”
“Matt has a great offseason. He obviously had the surgery, so he knocked it out of the park there. And Josh will obviously work more indoors than outdoors. He does a tremendous job in the off-season program, things like that. I’m excited to see those guys play in Pre-season. They’re ready. We just have to put them to the test in battle. They’re making all the progression you look for in the second or third.[year] players. They are right on schedule.”
2023 Cowboys Draft: Clemson DT Brian Pressey can see himself playing with players like Micah Parsons – RJ Ochoa, Blogging for the Boys
Brian Pressey, the first-of-its-kind prospect in this week’s draft, loves the idea of playing Micah Parsons.
Fortunately for us here at BTB, we had the opportunity on Monday afternoon, Thanks to our friends at Sleep No, to sit down and chat with Bresee just two days before the draft officially begins. He was clearly excited about his future that is about to take shape, and you can watch our entire conversation here.
Brissy doesn’t make any bold claims given that he approaches this whole process with a lot of humility. He noted that he is grateful for the opportunity and that he cannot wait to get a home in the NFL.
Among the things we’ve talked about is his versatility along the defensive line (he feels confident playing anywhere, something Dan Quinn sure loves), and whether he’s allowed himself to fantasize alongside players like Micah Parsons. Again, he refused to say anything that would commit him to any particular team, but did note that he’s definitely letting his imagination run wild a bit as he gets closer and closer to this week.
