Cowboys not expected to reach long-term deal with franchise-tagged Tony Pollard, reports report – Jared Dubin, CBS Sports
The deadline is almost upon us and a long-term deal with Tony Pollard seems very unlikely.
the Dallas Cowboys We definitely expect you to have a running back Tony Pollard He is in the fold for the 2023 season, but if they want to keep him longer than that, they may need to wait a while to come up with a new contract agreement. according to Report from ESPNThe Cowboys and Pollard are not expected to agree to a long-term deal before Monday’s franchise-sign deadline.
If the deadline comes and goes without a long-term agreement between the team and the new Major, Pollard will play the 2023 season on the $10.1 million franchise tag he signed back in March, when the team originally used the tag on him.
In four seasons with Dallas after being selected in the fourth round by Memphis again in 2019, Pollard totaled 2,616 yards and seven touchdowns on 510 carries, adding 1,008 more yards and five scores on 121 receptions. Although the work is largely behind the incumbent’s operation Ezekiel ElliottObviously, Pollard was the most explosive and effective player during the duo’s time on the court.
Spagnola: Taking the Second Year’s Leap in Significance – Mickey Spagnola, DallasCowboys.com
Sam Williams continues to be named a Cowboys breakout player in 2023.
Go with Sam Williams to appear on defense and Jake Ferguson to make everyone forget Dalton Schultz, or at least not have a group of people seven games into the season whining about the Cowboys letting the veteran tight end out in free agency.
Let’s start with Sam, who needs to become Sam The Man. Considering his lack of experience on the defensive side and only playing 23.8% of snaps as a rookie, well, the second-round draft pick ended up with four sacks, 20 QB pressures, three forced fumbles and seven tackles for loss. The most shots he has conceded in a game is 27.
The guy can rush to the quarterback, but to earn more snaps, Williams must improve against the run to become more than just a rushing defensive linebacker. This is one of the reasons Williams was not a first-round pick Be a miss. Wanted to improve his run defense, and do a better job of turning those outside-play-inside runs around by marking the edge.
For it to become relevant, Williams knows he has to climb the totem pole. Sure enough, he trailed Lawrence, Dorrance Armstrong, and Parsons, too, when defensive coordinator Dan Quinn decided to play him at defensive end. These guys are the defensive team’s best defenders, and therefore earn the right to rush into the quarterback.
“I need 10 sacks,” Williams said. “Ten sacks will open up a lot of opportunities for me. Obviously, the goal of the team is to win the championship, but my personal goal and what I’m working on is to improve with my hand. And I need 10 sacks.”
Cowboy Camp Construction “Cross a Line!” – Residents of Irate Oxnard – Jonathan Alfano, Sacramento P
Some of the fans who live at training camp seem to be upset with the Cowboys.
The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of preparations for training camp in Oxnard, California, but it looks like they’re not starting off on the right foot. According to the Dallas Morning News, Oxnard residents are upset with the Cowboys for building temporary structures for training camp inches away from their property without prior notice. Residents take action in response by hiring attorneys and filing a complaint with the city.
In the complaint filed by nine residents of five households, attorney Eric Hawes accused the Cowboys of beginning construction on a structure “on the lot line without setback and without a building permit or special use permit.” The Cowboys refuted that claim on Friday, noting that the city had approved all of the plans, but they requested that a white tent be added on top of the structure. However, that tent was not suitable for residents either.
Oxnard-based Warner Cutbill is a Cowboys fan who said he adjusts his work schedule to watch practices. But this year, the structure near his yard spoiled his view. He even said that he recently bought a Ring camera due to concerns that someone might climb the structure ladder and enter his yard.
“It’s horrible,” Cutbill said. “I was so excited about this camp showing up. Now, I wish he was gone at about a certain point. I can’t see myself getting excited about going there and watching at all. I just want to walk away at this point.”
Does More Cowboys RBs Mean Less RB Runs? – Red Hanson, Cowboys Wire
The Cowboys want better pass protection than their RBs.
With more responsibilities in pass protection, one would assume that would mean fewer downfield targets like pass catchers. Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott combined for 56 receptions for 463 yards and three touchdowns in 2022. Could a drop in production be on the horizon for the Dallas RB?
Maybe, but not necessarily.
Statements made could mean more slide bans and/or tougher capture tasks.
If the Cowboys continue to run the ball more often on early downs, they will likely continue to put themselves in clear pass situations on third downs. Having capable RBs who can help catch the blitz is crucial to survival.
Playing in the NFC East, the Cowboys also face some of the most talented running backs in the NFL. Chip blocking is an important tool in a pass-blocking arsenal because it provides assistance to the primary blocker without dedicating an entire double-team.
So, if chips are blocked, it adds to the pass protection responsibilities without robbing them of their receiving chances.
