Eden Durdy has been selected for the NFL Coach Acceleration Program – Jazz Monet, Inside the Star
While learning under Dan Quinn, Durdy transformed the Cowboys’ defensive line into one of the best in the league. Others are beginning to notice.
As part of its effort to diversify coach hiring, the NFL is hosting the second year of its Coaching Acceleration Program this week. The program will take place during the Spring League meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, May 21-23.
This year, the Dallas Cowboys are represented by defensive line coach Eden Durdy.
Participants are selected based on their high potential to be considered for a future NFL Head Coach position.
One of the purposes of the Coach Accelerator program is to increase exposure among NFL owners, executives, and diverse coaching talents.
The 40 participants in attendance will have the opportunity to network, build relationships and attend content sessions aimed at developing leadership skills and business acumen.
Although the program is relatively new, it appears to serve its intended purpose.
In an NFL press release, Commissioner Roger Goodell said, “In the year since its inception, we have been encouraged by the positive response to the Accelerator from both club owners and participants. We look forward to continuing to build on an amazing program that supports diverse talent.”
“No ego!” Cowboys mentor Brian Schottenheimer explains new offense role – Harrison Reno, Sports Illustrated
Brian Schottenheimer seems content to undo Mike McCarthy’s vision of crime.
The son of the late Marty Schottenheimer—McCarthy’s mentor—will work closely with the head coach to plant and ultimately manage the offense. Being called “Coordinator” without holding a playing card is new to Brian, yet they hit the ground running.
“That’s my job: to help prepare the players, prepare the staff and be in a position where we feel like we can go out there every week and compete and get a lot of wins together,” he said. “I’m excited about the process, but it will [admittedly] Be a little different because I’ve never done that.”
Which “is” is this? The person who has it as coordinator will not be the caller. Or even, one might say, the one McCarthy actually served as his coordinator, with trusted aide Schottenheimer at his side—both busy “teaching” at the moment.
“I have not [been in this situation before]But I’m excited, said Schottenheimer. “There’s no ego on my part. I just want to win. I want to help this team win for the players first and foremost, for this organization and for the Jones family – [I have] All the respect in the world to Mike. ”
3 Cowboy Candidates Who Will Be Cut This Summer — Kristen Wong, FanSided
It’s the time of year when talk of the menu bubble is in full swing.
No. 1 nominee for a cowboy cut: Jibril Cox
Draft picks are bound to have a snowball effect on any NFL team’s roster, and the Cowboys’ third-round selection of LB DeMarvion Overshown could push Jabril Cox to the sidelines.
Cox’s tenure at Dallas has been plagued with injuries since he was drafted by the Cowboys in 2021. The former fourth-rounder tore his ACL in Week 8 of his rookie campaign, an injury that has affected his start to the 2022 season, and he may struggle to lift his weight around the rest of the All-Star linebackers. Cowboys.
Cox played the majority of his career snaps on special teams, where the team likely hoped he would develop into a solid and enduring linebacker. With Overhown potentially grabbing more spots in Cox’s natural cornerback spot, Cox may be able to fill in for Luke Gifford’s special team departed to Tennessee Titans earlier in the season, but that’s a big if.
Ranking of the 3 most important offenses the Cowboys will face next season – Joey Boulez, Cap Landry
Get your popcorn ready. These three matches must include a lot of points.
The Cowboys haven’t faced the Bills since Thanksgiving Day in 2019. Josh Allen was only in his second season at the time and Stephon Diggs was still with the Minnesota Vikings. Buffalo won that game 26-15.
Four years later, Dallas will face a cutting-edge superstar quarterback in Allen, wide receivers duo of Diggs and Gabe Davis that have speed on the outside, and tight end duo of Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid that has the power to cause headaches. For defenses an explosive back in James Cook.
Despite the tough rivalry, the Cowboys certainly have their own star power on defense to contain Buffalo’s offense.
Trayvon Diggs will face his brother for the first time in his career, and Stefon Gilmour will help contain Diggs or Davis on the outside. Leighton Vander Esch or even rookie DeMarvion Overshown, a senior coverage linebacker, can take on Knox, and DaRon Bland can protect Kincaid in the slot.
10 Cowboys Still in the Free Agency Market as 2023 OTAs Begin – KD Drummond, Cowboys Wire
Some options if Dallas wants to add some familiar faces to the roster.
OT Jason Peters
The 18-year-old veteran has yet to hand in his retirement papers, so he could conceivably sign with a team at any moment. That moment likely won’t come until the middle of the summer, as he sat on the sidelines last year until an injury to Tyrone Smith brought him to Dallas. He struggled with multiple injuries while with the Cowboys, including a groin injury that kept him out of the divisional round to the 49ers, but he could still help the club in 2023.
WRTY Hilton
Hilton’s third and universe connection with Dak Prescott will live in disrepair among cowboy fans for a long time. He came and helped the Dallas offense when CeeDee Lamb was the only viable weapon in the passing game. He, too, has sat around waiting for the right opportunity for a competitor to come along, and it wouldn’t be surprising if that was his position again in 2023.
Price cap suggested for signing free agent Ezekiel Elliott, but Cowboys might not want to go there – Dave Halprin, Blogging The Boys
What is the market value of a running back who can pick up 2-3 yards in almost any situation?
The longer Elliott was on the market, the idea of him returning to Dallas became a moot point. Dallas only signed Ronald Jones as a replacement with Deuce Vaughn drafted. They also have Malik Davis and Rico Doodle already on the list.
Bill Barnwell on ESPN recently suggested Elliott move back to Dallas.
For the Cowboys who already had a lot of hesitation about showing up [Tony] Pollard for more than 30 shots per game, which puts him back [Ezekiel] Elliott got a cheaper deal that would provide security at one of the team’s more prestigious sites. Pollard is still recovering from Left fibula fracture He struggled during the postseason, so if the Cowboys don’t want to push him back into the lineup in September, Elliott’s ability to pass protection and run effectively between tackles will be a plus for coach Mike McCarthy. If Elliott — who ran for 876 yards and 12 TDs last season — won’t get a $5 million deal elsewhere, why not stay at home in Dallas?
The interesting nugget is that Barnwell pegs $5 million annually as a kind of ceiling for the deal. The Cowboys could easily get out of deals with Jones (about $1 million), Dowdle (about $1 million), and Davis (just under $900,000). We’ll count Deuce Vaughn in a different category because his role will be as a change of pace/tool/passing game specialist.
