Could the changes put Duck in the MVP conversation? – Dallas Cowboys Book, dallascowboys.com
Staff writer from the mothership answers one pressing question regarding quarterback Dak Prescott.
Curt Daniels: Remember, Dak Prescott was in the MVP conversation early in the 2020 season before his campaign was halted by that brutal injury. And there’s no reason to think he can’t enter the race again. The key may be what he has around him. Can the offensive line stay healthy? Will young tight ends contribute? Is there a ground game? More importantly, can he and Mike McCarthy get on the same wavelength? That might be a lot to ask, but if he gets some help, Prescott has shown the ability to put up MVP-caliber numbers.
Patrick Walker: Prescott could put himself back in the MVP conversation simply by cutting his interception tally from 2022 in half, which is entirely possible when considered a deflection at the start. Assuming he does, the addition of Brandin Cooks (and boy did that combo look good in the minicamp) and Deuce Vaughn immediately makes the offense even more dangerous, along with a tight endroom populated by three playmakers. Throw in CeeDee Lamb’s dominance and if Michael Gallup returns to form, we might all be quickly reminded that Prescott was in the MVP conversation just two years ago.
Nick Eatman: This goes back to question #3 about Micah winning DPOY. Either he should be out of his mind and have off-the-chart stats — or the Cowboys should be the best team in the league and have the top seed in the NFC. This seems more likely than Duck having amazing stats because that’s not usually his game. He can put up big numbers sometimes, but he will also throw for 220 yards, two touchdowns in a decisive win. I think for the Duck, the Cowboys have to be the best team in the NFC and that has to be the main reason for that. The question is not valid. If they win, he’ll have a chance.
Why The Dallas Cowboys Are Under More Pressure Than Any Team In The NFL To Enter The 2023 Season – Brad Gagnon, Bleacher Report
America’s Team is not new to the spotlight and unfamiliar with the interest of being the most visible sports franchise in the world. However, this year the Cowboys are under tremendous pressure to make noise late in the season.
All ingredients are supposed to be there. A high-achieving quarterback making $40 million a year in his prime. A highly skilled offensive line that features two potential Hall of Famers in Zack Martin and Tyron Smith. Corps deep receivers are highlighted by 24-year-old budding star CeeDee Lamb and veteran Brandin Cooks. Pro Bowl running back. and a defense that ranks second in the NFL in DVOA (Defence Adjusted Value of Average) in Football Outsiders thanks to the Pro Bowl campaigns of Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and DeMarcus Lawrence in 2022.
Overall, despite the fact that quarterback, Dak Prescott, missed five games due to injury, the Cowboys are ranked sixth in DVOA totals and fifth in point difference while winning 12 games last year.
With Cooks, accomplished cornerback Stephon Gilmour and first-round defensive tackle Mazie Smith on board, this year’s team should be just as good if not better, especially if Prescott can get back on track. However, it’s hard to buy considering the franchise hasn’t even made a conference title game, let alone powerat 27 years old.
During that span, the Cowboys have only won five playoff games—all in the Wild Card Round.
The change is likely to start with Prescott, who has thrown a league-leading 15 interceptions in just 12 games in 2022 and has missed a total of 17 games in the past three seasons. When the 29-year-old is healthy and at his best, he’s a Super Bowl-caliber quarterback. But that hasn’t often been the case since he landed a four-year, $160 million deal two seasons ago.
The Cowboys’ ultimate roster points at wide receiver is up for grabs – Mario Herrera Jr., inside star
The battle for the last few spots on the list will be full of drama. Here’s a preview of the receivers fighting to make the team and where they currently stand.
Founder(s) writer: CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and Michael Gallup
Battle for backup: Cavontae Turpin, Jalen Tolbert, Simi Fyoko, Dennis Huston, Jalen Brooks, Jalen Moreno Cropper
The top three wide receivers are secured on the depth chart. CeeDee Lamb is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and is primed for his best season now that he is eligible for an extension. Brandin Cooks, aka “Mr. 1K,” by trading in an aggressive move not typical for a Cowboys front office.
A terrible quarterback play last year in Houston led to the Chefs losing 1,000 receiving yards for only the second time in eight seasons. Michael Gallup had not yet recovered from his anterior cruciate ligament injury when Dallas decided to sign him to an expensive contract. He spent his 2022 season trying to get back on his feet, and Dallas expects him to get back up to form. Other than those top three spots, the remaining roster spots are wide open for the taking. These points on the list will be taken by three, possibly four of the next hopeful players.
Cavonte Turpin
Everyone knows KaVontae Turpin’s story at this point. He was the best player in USFLand his elusiveness earned him a job as the Cowboys’ starting running back in 2022. One of the things the fanbase has been clamoring for all season is to see him more involved in offense.
People forget he played an entire season in the USFL, and was barely able to put his feet down before joining the Cowboys. There is a reason he was not involved in the crime. He was tired! Now fully rested, Turpin will be given the opportunity for a bigger attacking role.
Galen Tolbert
The second-year player from South Alabama was considered ready for the NFL when he was drafted in the third round last season. As Maury Povich said, the results determined that this was a lie. Tolbert famously finished the season with only two runs for 12 yards in just eight active games. He showed delays in obtaining the game’s handbook, and struggled to open himself up in his limited opportunities. The young wide receiver has spent a good portion of the offseason working closely with Dak Prescott at the Duck Yard.
6 Dallas Cowboys Land On Pro Football Network’s NFL Top 100 Players Of 2023 – Brian Martin, Blogging For The Boys
These Cowboys were named by the Professional Football Network (PFN) among the NFL’s top 100 players entering the 2023 season and Brian Martin rates the Cowboys on PFN’s list.
84) Jaafar al-Qahtani) Dallas Cowboys
Few players have the ability to improve their stock in 2023 like CeeDee Lamb. His on the road prowess and post-catch ability make him one of the most dangerous receivers in the NFL. Lamb’s problem was consistency.
Giving in to knocking, running the wrong ways, and suffering from a few drops of concentration hurt what could have been an insanely productive 2022 despite the lack of help around him in the passing game. Brandin Cooks can open things up, and if Lamb can come off in 2023 the way he did in 2022, he’ll be one of the most productive pass players in the NFL.
This seems a bit low for CeeDee Lamb, however, and the criticism of Cowboys #1 WR feels valid. The No. 88 has a knack for being as good as any other player in the league, but until he becomes more consistent with his game in general, some issues may continue to plague him.
69) Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott hasn’t had much better luck with injuries than Jackson since 2020. The veteran QB broke his ankle in 2020 and his thumb in the first game of 2022. Although he went 8-4 as a starter last season, Prescott struggled with a general downturn. While many of his interceptions were the product of miscommunication or bad luck, he was an even more inconsistent passer last season. But with the addition of Brandin Cooks and, more importantly, speed on offense offense, expectations haven’t been high for the Cowboys in some time.
After the way he played out the 2022 season with Dak Prescott, getting to 69 seems pretty accurate. With Brandin Cooks adding to the passing game and having better luck staying healthy, there’s no reason to think the Dallas QB won’t bounce back in 2023.
