Brandin Cooks aims to “bring that explosive play” to the Cowboys offense – Todd Brock, Yahoo Sports!
Wide receiver Brandon Cox will extend the field for the Dallas offense.
While Dallas finished 2022 with a top five team in points per game, they saw just 81 explosive passes (16+ yards) over the course of the season. That was actually below the league average, and the stat they’re aiming to raise this fall.
Enter Brandine’s Chefs. The veteran receiver, who has already racked up 1,000-yard carries with four different clubs, believes that’s a big reason why the Cowboys traded him in March.
“I just want to keep delivering this explosive game,” Cox told reporters this week during the OTAs. “Being dynamic, something they’ve already got, but they just want to build on that.”
The chefs will undoubtedly add experience and well-traveled leadership to a wide receivers group led by CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. But Cox also brings his rare speed—something that has already impressed quarterback Dak Prescott—and a legendary training regimen, developed over his nine pro seasons, that has helped him keep his physique and legs of 4.33.
“I would say I really learned my routine,” recalls the cooks, “and I go into year four or five, and every year I feel like I’m adding to that. But like I tell guys, I spend my money on my body because at the end of the day, it’s your greatest ability, you know.” , is your presence. Just take it seriously, not only on the field, but off the field as well.”
NFL roster news: DeAndre Hopkins cut by Cardinals, Cowboys must follow – RJ Ochoa, Blogging the Boys
The Cowboys could add another playmaker to the roster.
It’s the last week of May and one of the best NFL receivers on the open market. You read that right.
On Friday at lunchtime some important news appeared around the league when it was Arizona Cardinals Finally, DeAndre Hopkins was released. The seasoned wide-ranger is officially a free agent.
One of the NFL’s most productive receivers for nearly a decade, Hopkins found himself a bit lost in the turmoil that has plagued the Cardinals organization as a whole for the past couple of years. With the right team, he can certainly contribute at a high level.
maybe Dallas Cowboys Is this the right team, right? Hopkins could return to Texas, he’s had no problems associating himself with the Cowboys while trying to get away from Arizona, and the Dallas characters are going to be a competitive team this season. Not to mention the Cowboys visit the Cardinals next season, so Hopkins could get a chance to stick it with a Cardinals organization he’s clearly starting to dislike in the end.
As noted, Hopkins has made it clear that he wants to transfer from the Cardinals and has recently listed some quarterbacks he would like to play with.
Spagnola: Keeping Their Hands in Ota – Mickey Spagnola, Dallascowboys.com
The 2023 season is approaching.
Even head coach Mike McCarthy took a quick hit of humor during his solo press conference this week, starting by saying, “There are rules we all have to abide by. Team drills aren’t practical under the guidelines. So today, our squad is basically going to be runs.”
He leaves himself open to asking, “Is this to avoid fines?” A round of media laughter followed, since the team went through one OTA session this year and McCarthy was fined $100,000 for back-to-back offenses, the first being $50,000 in 2021.
“Well, I’m glad you found humor in it,” McCarthy interjects. “My wife and I don’t really think it’s funny. It’s actually a sore spot for me. … We have to follow the rules.”
And boy, did they do it excessively, especially since the aggression considered last year was certainly not terrible for those witnessing the drill.
So Thursday, during the 7-on-7 and team periods, there were no hard passes in the air. No diving to make plays. You’ve probably worn 16-ounce puffy boxing gloves. And certainly, no casual flirtations between two people.
But there were enough other things to chew on.
Like again, Trayvon Diggs, like last year’s times, wasn’t a volunteer this Thursday.
Left Guard Candidates Stop the Competition – Nick Harris, Dallascowboys.com
The competition for the left guard is underway in Ota.
While the media was available in OTA on Thursday afternoon, Matt Varniuk took over the majority of the first-team cast at left guard as the third-year offensive lineman continues to take the run day in and day out.
“Just keep doing my job better than I did yesterday,” Varniuk said of his mindset this season. “Learn from any mistake I make and don’t repeat it and continue to be a better footballer than I have been.”
Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones spoke about the addition of Chuma Iduga during a media availability last week, as the fifth-year guard looks forward to contributing however the coaching staff sees fit.
“I’m just ready to play wherever the coaches put me,” Iduga said. “Whether it’s protection or a tackle. Right now it’s still very early in the process, so I accept my role and play wherever I want to play.”
The same mentality exists with third-year offensive lineman Josh Paul who is also looking to contribute but could do so in 2023.
“Whatever the coaches decide is the right thing, that’s what’s going to happen,” said Paul. “If given the opportunity, it would be great, but it’s all I can do to help the team.”
