Garbrandt (13-5) is a former 135-pound champ and emerged victorious earlier this year when he defeated Trevin Jones at UFC 285. This win helped Garbrandt off a losing streak in two matches, not to mention escape a tough 1-5 record his previous six fights. Now that Garbrandt is back in the winning pole, he at least has some momentum again. Even though the former UFC champ isn’t the same fighter he once was, he’s still only 31 years old on paper (32 when this fight takes place). Despite his ups and downs, he might still have some gas left in his tank.
Bautista (12-2) is quickly becoming a new challenger in the stacked bantamweight division. He has a 6-2 record in the UFC and has won his last four fights in a row. In fact, Bautista won three straight fights via submission. He looks like someone fans and the media need to watch at 135 pounds, which is to say nothing of the other fighters in the division, who need to keep this young man in the know. At the age of 29, he is in the prime of his career at the moment.
Although Garbrandt is the former champion, Bautista has been impressive of late, so don’t be surprised if he is the betting favorite in this contest despite Garbrandt’s title pedigree.
