While of interest among many due to his uncanny knowledge of the game as one of the greatest point guards of all time, Chris Paul doesn’t see himself holding a drawing board while on the sidelines calling shots to players after his illustrious career.
As is the case lately Back At The Shop, Paul inquires about the possibility of being a head coach, but is quickly dismissed as travel length is an issue for him.
“No,” Paul said of being a coach, for every Caitlin Holroyd of theScore. “Honestly, I’ll tell you, I don’t want to travel that way.”
Paul has coaching experience handling AAU teams, specifically his CP3 team, and he believes it is much better to manage younger players than the pros in the NBA.
“That’s why I love the AAU, because you get a chance to make the kids up early. Because when we get to the NBA, we don’t try to hear any of this shit,” Paul said. “On the ground, you get to get to the NBA. I mean, I can’t imagine us coaching because we feel like we know everything.”
With 32 percent of the vote, Paul ranked first for the active player who will be the best head coach someday in the NBA GM reconnaissance ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Paul’s future with the Phoenix Suns is yet to be decided, as the franchise continues to consider his options with a future Hall of Famer. He averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 dimes last year.
