2023 NFL Season: The 10 Biggest Holes Left on the Roster | NFL.com
10 – Kansas City Chiefs
Edge Rasher
Kansas City has parted ways with veteran Frank Clarke, who recently signed with rival AFC West, leaving the Chiefs youngster on the edges. Andy Reed’s club is counting on 2022 first-place finisher George Karlaftis to build on a strong first year, when he finished second on the team with six sacks. Adding free agent Charles Omeniho brings the upside in an expanded role after being a rotational player in his first four years, while number one in 2023 Felix Anodic-Uzuma should play plenty in his rising campaign. Last season, the Chiefs were a pressing powerhouse, finishing second in the NFL with 55 sacks, though DT Chris Jones (15.5) was the only KC player with double digits. They’ll need the same kind of production spread out in 2023. Still, it wouldn’t be surprising if KC brought in a veteran presence to round out the set closer to the season – especially if he’s looking for an episode that might get less money to join Patrick Mahomes. A strong group of veteran edge riders is currently available in Ngakoue, Clowney, and former chiefs Melvin Ingram and Justin Houston. Edge depth chart is not a critical flaw of bosses, but it can be cemented before powerChampions title defense.

The must-watch apprentice: WR Rashee Rice
The Chiefs traded in the second round for the former SMU star, who put up big numbers in his final season with the Mustangs. Given the Chiefs’ lack of depth at receiver, Rice will get a lot of deep looks.
Over/Under Total Gain 11.5: Over
Despite some glitches in Kansas City’s offense, Patrick Mahomes is a great equalizer. This Chiefs team should still be favorites to win the AFC for the fourth time under this system.
Jordan Love’s arrival won’t be quite the same as Patrick Mahomes, Ian Rapoport claims sports
Contrary to expectations, this season turned out to be a breakthrough for the Chiefs. Since then, Mahomes has led the team to three Super Bowl appearances and two championship victories. some Packers Fans are now hoping for a similar impact from Aaron Rodgers’ successor, but insider Ian Rapoport set much lower expectations.
Here’s how to put it:
“It’s not like Mahomes was going to be the captain of the Chiefs for the first time when they were like ‘Yo, like we got something.’ Where they knew [in advance]. This is not the case. This is more like “we think we have something”. He’s clearly talented.”
The night trade that launched the Chiefs’ Super Bowl roster reload | the athlete
Veach entered the league in 2007 by getting a Philadelphia Eagles as Reid’s assistant. Ten years later, as a fast-rising figure, Veach proved instrumental in convincing Reed and former general manager John Dorsey to execute a generation-defining trade—a deal with Buffalo bills to move up 17 spots in the draft to get Mahomes, the franchise’s greatest player, with the 10th overall pick. A few months after that, Fitch kicked off the interview to replace Dorsey by handing Hunt a thick file outlining his vision of how to improve the team’s roster.
“We didn’t spend a lot of time on it, thankfully,” Hunt said. “He had it in case you wanted to see it. It involved using more free agency than I’m used to. He felt that was an important tool. From day one, he showed us he was very open to the trade.”
“We wouldn’t have made it to Super Bowl LIV without some of those moves he made at the time. I think the introductory classes he’s put together in the last several years are key to our success.”
Nick Bolton lands in Sports Illustrated’s rankings of the NFL’s Top 10 Best Players | the mom
Bolton was recognized as one of the best midfielders in the league last week when it reached No. 10 in Sports Illustrated’s rankings for that position. Here is what SI’s Gilberto Manzano wrote about Bolton:
You may not be familiar with the name, but you’ve definitely noticed the middle linebacker in jersey number 32 running around making plays for the Chiefs during postseason games. Bolton, 23, appeared as a starter in 2021, but has elevated his game to Next level sophomore year by accumulating 180 total tackles, second most in the league. As a unit, the Chiefs defense is often forgotten (like teammates Patrick Mahomes);Boulton has said it himself that the defense doesn’t get the respect it deserves. It’s also time to admit that Bolton is one of the best midfielders in the league.”

Heads Travis Kelsey, Jodi Fortson head to Tate End
Kelsey, 33, has truly embraced the mentoring role that goes along with being a 10-year NFL veteran — both in and out of the Chiefs’ building.
“Young guys, guys who are kind of like, are still being molded into this crime you’re going to see this year — which is a bit of advice I can give anyone,” Kelce explained in the obligatory minicamp. “This is kind of cross-league — I’m going to be offering gold nuggets here at Tight End U next week…or what I think are gold nuggets.
“And it will be – I’m here to try and make everyone the best they can be and I still have that confidence that what we do here will always be number one.”
