Referee explains Kadarius Toney’s offensive offside call in Chiefs-Bills | Fox4
“I’ve played seven years and never had offensive offsides called,” Mahomes said. “That’s elementary school. You point to the ref, do all that different type of stuff and it doesn’t get called and if it does, they warn you, and there was no warning throughout the entire game, and then you wait until there’s a minute left in the game, you make a call like that.
“It’s tough, man. Lost for words, man. Regardless of if we win or lose, just for it to end with another game and we’re talking about the refs. That’s just not what we want for the NFL and for football.”
Mahomes was so furious that he was held back by multiple teammates on the sideline and slammed his helmet as well.
In the pool report, referee Carl Cheffers, who has a history of making questionable calls in Chiefs games, said if receivers look for alignment advice, they will give it to them but players are responsible for where they line up.
“No warning is required especially if they are lined up so far offsides where they’re actually blocking our view of the ball,” Cheffers said in the report. “We would give them some sort of a warning if it was anywhere close, but this particular one is beyond a warning.”
Buffalo 20-17 over Kansas City
Bills: B+
Buffalo was able to find a way to pull out a gutsy win in one of the toughest environments in the NFL. On a night when the wide receivers were unable to make an impact, Josh Allen found other outlets in the passing game like James Cook, while also making plays with his legs. Buffalo built up an early lead thanks to an early turnover and a 14-0 run by the offense, which forced K.C. to play from behind from the jump. In the second half, the defense continued to come up big in the clutch, forcing a key three-and-out by the Chiefs right before the go-ahead field goal drive. The Bills weren’t firing on all cylinders, but they made the necessary plays to come out on top and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Chiefs: C
The Chiefs had an opportunity to win this game, but couldn’t get out of their own way. Travis Kelce caught a deep pass from Patrick Mahomes and the tight end lateraled the football to wideout Kadarius Toney, who ran it in for what was thought to be the go-ahead touchdown with just over a minute to play in regulation. However, Toney lined up offsides and erased the play altogether. Kansas City wide receivers continued to put the team behind the eight ball as the position group had a handful of drops and a key second-half turnover on top of the Toney infraction. That contributed to their sluggish start to this game, which found them playing from behind for the entire afternoon. The defense kept them within striking distance throughout the game, but the offense is still missing another reliable weapon outside of Kelce.
Taylor Swift was in the stands supporting Travis Kelce during tonight’s game between the Chiefs and the Bills, which the Chiefs sadly lost 20-17. Well, sadly for Chiefs/Taylor Swift fans—if you’re a Bills fan, congrats and whatnot.
Taylor was seen cheering on for Travis during the game, and then—in a super sweet end to the evening—they were spotted leaving the game hand in hand. And the way she’s looking at him is just *melts into puddle*
2023 NFL season, Week 14: What We Learned from Sunday’s games | NFL.com
Chiefs fall again as weapons drop the ball. Same story, different day for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. Between intermittent long drives came the same issues that have plagued K.C. all season. Mahomes threw a batted pick on the opening drive. There was little run game aid without Isiah Pacheco. Most notably, receivers struggle to generate separation and miss far too many balls. Rooke Rashee Rice, the Chiefs’ best wideout, coughed up a third-quarter fumble. The rotten cherry on top of it all Sunday was Kadarius Toney lining up offsides on the Chiefs’ final drive, wiping out a ridiculous play by Travis Kelce. The tight end caught a pass over the middle, pivoted, and tossed a lateral to Toney, who ran in for a would-be touchdown. However, Toney lined up in the neutral zone, negating a bonkers score that would have given K.C. a late lead. Instead, Mahomes was — again — left heaving an unanswered prayer on fourth-and-long. The play is symbolic of a receiver room that can’t get out of its own way in 2023.
Best sports plays that didn’t count — Travis Kelce joins list | ESPN
Not every incredible play goes into the scorebooks.
A clutch touchdown gets called back for holding. A windmill dunk comes a quarter-second after a whistle. A game-changing historical moment simply … doesn’t happen. But everyone still remembers, because something about a play that gets called back ennobles it in our minds.
A play like that just happened in the Kansas City Chiefs 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills. It was set up on second and 10 as Kansas City trailed 20-17 with 1:25 remaining. Patrick Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce on a 25-yard pass. The star tight end was surrounded by three Buffalo defenders then tossed a lateral pass to Kadarius Toney, who made a 24-yard trot to the end zone.
But Kelce’s perfect spiral was all for naught due to an offsides penalty on Toney that nullified the touchdown.

Vikings beat Raiders 3-0 in lowest-scoring NFL game in 16 years | CBS News
Minnesota and Las Vegas played the lowest-scoring NFL game in 16 years, with Greg Joseph’s 36-yard field goal with 1:57 left giving the Vikings a 3-0 victory over the Raiders on Sunday.
It was the first 3-0 game since Pittsburgh beat Miami on Nov. 26, 2007, the third in the past 40 years and the seventh in the Super Bowl era.
Joseph’s kick ensured the game wouldn’t end regulation scoreless for the first time since the New York Giants played the host Detroit Lions to a 0-0 tie on Nov. 7, 1943.
The Vikings (7-6) had just 230 total yards, and the Raiders (5-8) — losers of three in a row — were limited to 201 yards and nine first downs. Minnesota beat an AFC West opponent for the first time this season after going 0-3.
It was Minnesota’s first shutout since defeating the Packers 16-0 on Dec. 23, 2017 and the first blanking of Las Vegas since its 24-0 loss to New Orleans on Oct. 30, 2022.

Analyzing the ankle injury of Chiefs’ safety Bryan Cook
Given the appearance of the injury, it would not be surprising to see Cook miss extended time; in all likelihood, he will miss the rest of the regular season. Depending on the results of the latest testing (and his rehab) there is a possibility he could return in the postseason.
The mechanism of injury — that is, the way Cook’s foot planted and turned — could be indicative of a high ankle sprain, which most commonly occurs when the foot is externally rotated (turned outward) in relation to the rest of the lower leg. A high ankle sprain differs from a traditional (inversion) sprain because the injured tissue is the syndesmosis (connective tissue) between the tibia and fibula, rather than the ligaments at the ankle joint.
The rehabilitation time for high ankle sprains can differ drastically depending on the severity of the injury — not to mention the physical demands of a player’s position.
Given what we know, we can reasonably infer that Cook’s injury is at least a Grade II sprain. With these, there is partial tearing of the ligament and moderate joint laxity (looseness or increased instability). But it could easily be a Grade III injury, too. In these, we see complete tearing of the ligament and gross joint laxity.
While Cook’s injury could have been much more severe, initial indications suggest there is a chance he could return to the team before the season ends. We have already seen the Chiefs’ medical staff display their expertise in dealing with severe high ankle injuries — such as the one quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered during the 2022 postseason.
