NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Former Duke and Solheim teammates Celine Potter and Leona Maguire remained undefeated Saturday at Shadow Creek to set up their semifinal match at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play.
Third seed Pottier, 29, of France edged out Ayaka Furio of Japan 2&1 in the quarterfinals. Seventh-seeded Maguire, 28, from Ireland, beat American Lindsey Weaver-Wright 3, 2.
In the other semi-final on Sunday morning, Sweden’s Len Grant will take on Thailand’s Pajari Annarukarn. Grant beat Swiss Albany Valenzuela 3 and 1, and Ananarokarne beat Carlotta Ceganda of Spain 3 and 2.
A two-time Solheim Cup European champion, Pottier won the LPGA Drive On Championship in March at Superstition Mountain in Arizona for her third LPGA Tour title. Angel Yin topped 4 and 2 in the morning in the round of 16.
Maguire wins the 2022 LPGA Drive On Championship in Florida for her only LPGA Tour title. She beat Perrine Delacour 5 & 3 in the Round of 16.
“Really happy to pass 36 holes today,” said Maguire. “It’s good to be in the semi-finals. I played some really strong golf today. It might have been a bit short this afternoon, but I knew it was going to be a battle out there and it was just a case of being patient. Yeah, I did enough to make it through to tomorrow.”
Eighth seeded Grant does not win on the LPGA Tour. The 23-year-old Swede shone in Arizona.
“It’s stressful to play a game,” Grant said. “You’re so happy when you get this win, and now I’m so happy and so excited for tomorrow.”
Annanarukarn, ranked 36th, has won the ISPS Handa World Invitational 2021 in Northern Ireland for her only title on the LPGA Tour. She is also 23 years old.
“Just try to stay in the present moment,” Annarukarn said. “It’s what I’ve been doing really well and I’m glad I was able to focus on that.”
