The Professional Fighters League sends a famous fighter home for his promotional debut.
With Thursday’s promotion, Cedric Dombey (4-0) will serve as the main attraction of the PFL Europe Playoffs, where he will compete in a non-championship welterweight contest against a currently unnamed opponent. Dombey was initially scheduled to face Jarrah El Silawi as a late entrant in the 2023 regular season, but an injury knocked him out of that duo in June and he was replaced by Solomon Renfro. The new PFL kickboxer will take place on September 30 in his native France, at Zenith Paris la Villette in Paris.
In what some might consider a late start, Cameroonian-born Dombey launched his professional MMA career in 2021 at the age of 29. In that sport, Dombey, known as “Le Meilleur” or “The Best,” amassed a record of 75-7-1 with 45 victories by knockout. Along the way, he picked up the Glory kickboxing belt at welterweight in 2016 from Nieky Holzken, and won it for the second time over Harut Grigorian in 2019. As an MMA fighter, Dombey has scored four knockouts in two rounds so far.
