The Dublin-based Bellator MMA is loading its next card with plenty of local talent.
The organization announced Thursday that it has booked six new matches for the September 23 event at 3 Arena in Dublin. The fight card, titled Bellator 299, appears to have its own four-fight main card – albeit that could change at any time – with Johnny Iblin vs. Fabian Edwards for the middleweight belt as the main attraction. The new match to open is a featherweight showdown between Sinead Kavanagh (9-5) and Sara Collins (4-0).
Former title challenger Kavanagh is aiming for a three-fight winning streak, which would be her longest since starting her career at 4-0. In February 2022 he topped Ireland’s Leah McCourt on the scorecards, and came back in February this year to put himself ahead of Janay Harding. Defeating the woman known as “KO” would lower her company’s record to . 500 and tie her with the most losses of any fighter entering the Bellator cage.
Australian Collins impressed on her Bellator debut in March, delivering an arm-wielding sash to former Invicta Fighting Championship beltholder Pam Sorenson just after the middle of the first round. It is native to Australia, and the first to finish in the opening frame.
Five other games are currently slated as ahead of the bills, as released by Bellator. The top mile in that series is the light heavyweight showdown between Britain’s Luke Trainer (7-1) and “Captain of Lithuania” Laurynas Urbonavicius (14-1). Other bouts include a lightweight bout between Scotland’s Mark Ewen (4-0) against French featherweight Noah Gounon (1-1), an “unbeatable” 145lb bout when Ireland’s Kenny Mukonona (5-0) takes on Josh O’Connor (4- 0) from Wales, a strawweight pairing between “Bestie Barbie” Chiara Benco (8-3) and 23-year-old genius Mackenzie Stiller (1-0) and a welterweight fight between Italy’s Niccolo Soli (4-1, 1 NC) and Punchian Power Punchian Romain Debienne (9-4).
