MERIDA, Mexico — Cearah Parchment scored 16 points and teammate Denia Brawl added 11 as host Canada led Mexico 71-44 on Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the U-16 Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Canada will play Puerto Rico, who defeated Brazil 57-49, in the semi-finals on Sunday. On the other side of the draw, the United States will play Argentina in the semi-finals. The United States crushed the Dominican Republic 106-34 on Saturday, while Argentina beat Colombia 55-54.
Canada jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first quarter against Mexico and took a 39-18 halftime lead.
Chance Perry led Canada with 10 points, while Savannah Swords scored eight.
Canada shot 35.1 percent from the floor on field goals, and 29.2 percent (7-of-24) from 3-point range.
Marinette Castillo led Mexico with 19 points, while Miranda Henry scored ten points.
