LAS VEGAS, NV — This time around a clean performance of bantamweight Cameron Siman defeating Terrence Mitchell at UFC 290 Saturday night.
“It’s great. It’s really great. It was like the mantra in every warm-up was like ‘No fouls, no fouls, no fouls’ so it’s great. It’s great,” Syman told reporters including Cageside Press at the post-fight party.
“I didn’t want there to be any question marks next to my performances. Unfortunately, the first two didn’t turn out the way I thought they would, but this one went very smoothly.”
With the win at UFC 290, and of course teammate Dricus du Plessis’ big win over Robert Whittaker and potentially facing champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 in Sydney, Syman considered putting up a fight on a quick turnaround for that card.
“I can say with confidence that September will not happen, but it will certainly be after September,” he said.
During the broadcast, the commentary team mentioned that Saiman wanted a match with former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt, which many saw as a sign of disrespect. Syman wanted to clear the air of defiance.
“So everyone knows it’s just out of respect. I have a lot of respect for him. I’ve spoken to him a few times at UFC PI as well. He’s a former champ. He’s someone I’ve looked up to for years,” he said.
“Obviously this fight is just I want to test my skills against some of the best players in the world and he is up there in the rankings as well. Winning against him can really strengthen my competitiveness to get to those higher positions.”
