Lucky members experience the old course in all its glory as the club enters final preparations for the AIG Women’s Open.
Golf News Linksnet’s long awaited day at Walton Heath did not disappoint, as our enthusiastic members got to play one of the best courses in the UK in near championship conditions. In just over a month the club will be hosting the prestigious AIG Women’s Open and with the stands now built, our Linksnet day already had the feel of a full scale tournament!
The guests started on the par 3 long first, an uphill starting hole, and one that was not used in the championship due to it being the only hole on the side of a very busy road. Once those nerves were out of the way, there was some great golf playing – no surprise despite the caliber of players on offer.
However, it must have been a day to remember for the chaps from Yorkshire! All but 3 of the prizes went to the Yorkshiremen, with Waterton Park GC’s Neil McRae winning a bottle of Hayman’s Gin for nearest the pin in two. The closest pin went to Mark Atwell of Marsden Park GC, winning with a bottle of Mercer Rum.
The Yorkshire side of Stuart Ness, Rob Cooper, Glenn Andrews and Neil MacRae went into Stapleford with an excellent 88 points. They each won a cool Castore polo shirt.
In the individual competition, Burhill GC’s Provulo’s Simon Hudson finished third with 37 points and won a pair of Skechers shoes. Runner-up was new Gold member Steve May with a perfect 38 points and won a £250 Stewart Golf voucher. But it was Yorkshire and Stewart Ness of Waterton Park who took home the titles with 40 points to win Bushnell’s Round 5 laser and a pair of tickets to the AIG Ladies Open courtesy of Toyo Tires who are the official sponsor of the AIG Women’s Open.
