Bilal Muhammad declared himself the best middleweight in the world.
Muhammad and Gilbert Burns are set to fight on short notice in the co-main event of UFC 288. Although Dana White was adamant that Colby Covington would take the title next, the UFC president said the winner of this fight will face the winner of that.
In the end, Mohammed won a one-sided decision and after the victory declared himself the best welterweight alive, despite not holding the belt.
“I told you guys. I’m the best welterweight in the world. To go out there and beat a guy like Gilbert Burns on three weeks’ notice, coming from Ramadan, you have no idea what we went through to get here. I love my team, I love my crew. I I know with our belief in ourselves and our belief in God that we can transcend anything,” Muhammad He said after UFC 288.
With Bilal Muhammad’s victory over Gilbert Burns at UFC 288, it will qualify him to fight for the belt next, hopefully against Leon Edwards. The two fought each other in 2021 with the fight ending in a No Contest due to an accidental eye poke, so Muhammed knows they both have unfinished business.
“Leon Edwards, we have unfinished business,” Mohammed said. “He beats goats. He has the longest winning streak. For me, that title is taken from him, especially the way the last fight went and for him to be satisfied with a fight decision like that, he goes either way. Players can taste my fist, I’ll be happy.” Either way… Just give me a cage and some gloves, and I’m ready to throw them in.”
Muhammad is currently on a 10-game unbeaten streak and has won by far over Shawn Brady, Vicente Luque, Stephen Thompson, and Demian Maia among others.
