Bilal Muhammad did not hesitate to take short notice against Gilbert Burns at UFC 288.
Mohammed was in the middle of Ramadan when he received a call to face Burns at UFC 288 as the co-main event after Charles Oliveira vs. Benil Darius stopped. However, Muhammad had no problem with fighting because he knew it was a great opportunity for him.
“You know me: I love to fight. I was excited about the opportunity, it was such a big opportunity, I couldn’t say no. I went straight back to work, call my coach, call my team. We all said let’s do it. And I’m ready,” Mohammed He said on UFC 288 media day.
Bilal Muhammad knows that Gilbert Burns beats Jorge Masvidal and is still fighting but warns the Brazilian that he is not like Masvidal.
Instead, Mohammed is confident he has all the tools to not only beat Burns but finish him off to steal Colby Covington’s title and take on Leon Edwards in October in Abu Dhabi.
“I think if you do great this weekend and get a great finish or something – they’re going to Abu Dhabi. Do you think they’re going to fight Lyon with Colby in Abu Dhabi?” said Mohamed. “No, they’re going to ask me to fight in Abu Dhabi. It’s going to be like a dream, and I guess that’s going to be how the story is supposed to be written. I just have to do my job this weekend, and I don’t really care what anything else is, because I know my next fight is You’ll be for the belt.”
As of now, the UFC and not Dana White have confirmed that winner Muhammed Burns at UFC 288 gets the next shot. But Mohamed is confident he can capture the next title given he has risen in such a short time and has been on a long winning streak.
